What are the best Driving Games?

I like my Drivers/Racers old school.

Night Driver
Spy Hunter
Pole Position
Stocker

and if I could only have one in my gameroom it would be Super/Championship Sprint. The game sucks as a single player game but is one of the best multi player games ever. Combat racing at it's best.

Rush the Rock and Crazy Taxi. One is the best racer in my opinion, the other is the best non-linear driving game.

I also love my Sega Rally Championship, but I think having the deluxe unit adds to the excitement in that one. I don't think it would be as fun in the other units but I could be wrong.

Add California Speed to the list. I personally like Rush better, but most guests here prefer California Speed out of the two.

I still miss my RoadBlasters.

i really dig that game too! i need to fix the thumb buttons, they both went out.

what else is in that spy hunter / road blasters style? i love my off road as well, for the same reason, adding features each round is awesome. the same reason i loved viper back in the day.

I think Road Riot is in that driver/shooter genre, but its a pretty average game IIRC. I'm sure you can find one cheap if thats what youre after.

My Favs

Outrun
SF2049
Virtua Racer (spent a lot of quarter on this game, fun with 2 people)

Now I own a Stand UP Crusin USA, and my kids love it. I like it, but I would love an Outrun or any of the racers above. Someday...

I say this every time this topic comes up...

2049 > everything. It set the bar for arcade-style racing games and nothing...nothing snatched that crown away until the Burnout series really got its legs on the console.

Straight arcade talk, 2049 is so top of the list it is its own list. :p

Pole Position 1 and 2 if you can keep it working. Chase HQ, but it can get a little monotonous. Outrun...nothing to say there, it's Outrun! Daytona/Virtua Racing I'm more of a Virtua Racing guy. I remember first seeing VR as a twin sit down unit and how cool and state of the art the game seemed at the time. I'd love to have one. Initial D is neat, but not everyone's cup of tea. Crazy Taxi is nuts...it's almost not a driving game, but I'll be damned claiming its not.

personally i like the old drivers like arari race drivin. the graphics suck but the gameplay has a more "real" feel to it as they did intend it on bieng a driving simulator..

Now for what you are doing youll want newer stuff. sanfransisco rush, rush2049, daytona usa, crusin usa, the fast and the furious, california speed, crazy taxi, etc.

theres lots of local duded near chicago im sure you can find most of them. I can point you int he right direction if you dont know most off the chi dudes yet.

thanks for the list of driving games. i haven't met many chicago people yet, though i have seen jeff from arcade adventures a few times.

once i have a bit more room i think i need to add to the driving games for sure. that's on deck next for sure i will have to talk to some chicago guys about what they are looking to get rid of.

how close to the city are you?
