I have two cabinets that I am interested in turning into horizontal jamma fighters. I'm an old classic arcade guy and I know next to nothing about fighter games. I am familiar with Neo Geo but I may be able to snag a few fighter jamma boards soon and I wanted to know what I could install that might actually sell right now. I'm talking about things like Mortal Combat, Bad Dudes, stuff like that. Not sure I can afford or have access to the newest, more expensive boards; just older, cheaper stuff. What arcades will younger peeps play/pay for? Any of the younger generation of KLOV'ers help me out?:D

Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat will be your best bets as they're the most popular series of fighters. I'd suggest SF2:CE for a classic board that's easy to find and maybe MK2 although I'm not so up on the MK games.

It may be a little more expensive but you would probably make more money with a CPS2 fighting game like Marvel Vs. Capcom or X-Men Vs. Street Fighter. They require an A board that plugs into Jamma and then the B board which is the game board. You'll also need 6 buttons for any of the SF or CPS2 games with kick harness support.

I think Marvel Vs. Capcom is as good as it gets for people who aren't big into fighters - It's really simple to pull off glitz and glimmer power moves and you have a ton of great characters to play with. A few of my friends aren't big into fighters and love MvsC but won't play the older Street Fighter II's. It's the only CPS2 board I have left out of like 5 I had because everyone loves it.

You might want to consider getting the multi-board that runs native on the original CPS2 A-board.

I'm not crazy about fighting games, but I really like Soul Calibur. It plays smoothly, if that makes sense. Its not spastic and you use a lot timing instead of button mashing to attack.

Thanks for the replies, guys! This gives me something to work from...

I guess I'm probably biased but X-Men vs Street Fighter is always a good time, although most people swear that Marvel vs Capcom 2 is the best iteration from the crossover series, I never liked MvC2 as much because it felt too convoluted.

Your best bet obviously would be to find a way to play the games and see what you like the most of course. And as always the granddaddy of them all Street Fighter II Champion Edition, and as well as Super Street Fighter 2.

One more good one worth mentioning is Street Fighter Alpha 3.

Sorry, at this point I'm probably not helping anymore. :D

Being on the younger end of collectors, I can tell you that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is still the #1 attention getter, although MVC3 coming out soon may minimize the game's arcade machine impact. Soul Calibur, 2 in particular, is also still 'in style' and I find all my friends popping countless quarters into it whenever we go to a joint that has one. SFIV is really the ultimate, but it's also the most expensive thing you'll buy (you may as well just buy ten classics for the dough you'll spend on a board alone). Mortal Kombat and Virtua Fighter are, from my experience, considered fairly archaic now depsite their strong points. A newer MK game will still make a good bit though. As much as I despise it, Tekken seems to be prety popular right now, especially if you can get Dark Ressurection. My personal suggestion would be SCII since it's old enough to get for cheaper but the graphics are better than most newer games still and it's fairly accesible (deep metagame but I've seen little kids make it to the last level before... it's not one of those 3 second death games), but maybe I'm biased since I have one ;) Hope this helps.

Βlue Elf 2 309in1 jamma pcb should do your job,its meant for fighters:

Although this is the most economical deal, I should point out that there is still semi-frequent legal action taken against multiboards in this country (if they're in the 'wild'). It depends on area... here in Staunton, multicades are everywhere and nobody cares, but in some urban areas it's caused some uproar and there have been some confiscated/destroyed cabs. That may have died down by now (I'm going by old KLOV threads) but it's something to be aware of.

but I think he will use it for himself not for public,so there is no problem

Actually, I think that he is looking to drop a board, and quickly sell his cabs.

I could suggest some decent/cheap fighters, but they won't necessarily move a cab. Power Instinct, Fighting History,

Hands down, no franchise is more over sought by the non-fighting game public than Mortal Kombat. But then you have to find working PCB's (not easily done cheap) and modify a CP.

Street Fighter II PCB's are a bit more reliable and plentiful. They can also sell with non collectors.

Soul Edge/Blade and early Tekken PCBs can be had cheaply, have great name recognition and easy installation.

You can always go with a 1 slot Neo Geo and a cheap fighter (Samsho, Fatal Fury, World Heroes, Breakers). The Neo-Geo name has great name recognition. It could make a great sell to a novice who doesn't know the difference between a 1 slot conversion and a Big Red.

Ah. Well, for home use or sales, multiboards, sadly, do command a LOT higher price... a lot more bang for the buck. You're right on that one.

only if you play Neo Geo fighters.
Most of the others have slowdown which can ruin a fighter.

to the OP, is this for home for guests to play, to put out on a route or are you trying to flip the cab. If you just want to flip it, then I agree that a Blue Elf may help to flip it easy.

In the Street Fighter crowd here are the best deals.

SF2:HF $60-75 plus you'll need a kick harness. Nearly as good as Super Turbo to most and much cheaper than Super SF2T's $150 price tag.
SFA3 $100+ (i have one for sale)
Marvel vs Capcom CPS2 $120-150
A NAOMI MvC2 or CvsSNK setup may cost a 200-300+
SFIII 3rd Strike is the most expensive high end deep fighter created but it's a fav to many Capcom game fans.

Here are my other suggestions.
Tekken Tag is pretty popular for a cheap board and it's only like $60 (I have a Tekken 2b for sale for cheap)
I like Soul Calibur 1 as it's a cheap board at $60 also

A single slot MVS board ($100) will let you change out loads of $50-100 fighters also. $20 or less if you want Sam Shodown 2 which is one of the best deals in a popular classic fighter.
