I got a Konami cab this weekend with some bottom water damage so it had swell. Last night I used a spackle knife to get in between the layer of good and bad of what seems to be some sort of fiber board. This thing is definately not made out of wood and has a carboard like consistency to it. Anyone know what this is?

It's even worse than Galaga cabinets when it gets wet. Those things don't crumble, they literally just flake apart. I had a contra one time, we actually just peeled layers of the swollen cardboard off of it until it was flat. Horrible cabinets.

Lots of cabs like that, simply because they are cheaper materials. And yeah, when exposed to water,it's like sugar dissolving in the rain.

Yup. And you can say goodbye to corners with these types of cabs. I'll probably get corner protectors for my newly acquired Dynamo HS-1 after I've finished patching and painting/vinyling.

HA !! That's exactly what I did last night. Peeled all of the bad layers off. Now I guess I will slather on some bondo to build it back up to OG thickness.
