What arcade world record do you think you could get?

i can do the satan's hollow 7 men world record. i was tempted to do it last summer, but i never felt like it. i couldn't do the 3 men record, as i have yet to break a million points on satan's hollow.

Well, I have the MAME records for Tower of Druaga, Trio the Punch, and Wonder Momo... and dedicated machine-wise I have broken the Raiden II world record by more than twofold multiple times in VA Beach, I just need to get a cab so I can record/verify it. Sadly, I cannot find one.

I'm also working towards the Blazing Star WR... though they aren't accepting machine records right now, the MAME record is 2,368,420 and I've managed to hit 1,900,000 a few times on my cab, so I'm working on that one right now in anticipation of them finally adding it to the "normal" machine list... if I do break the WR on my cab though I'll run and do it in MAME too :D

I think I could get propcycle, I know I could have taken Rastan until the guy recently just blew away the previous high score.

There are repetitive patterns.

Of course there are some bogus ones, I'm just not ready to count SID as bogus.

Twin Galaxies says the scores are referee verified. I'm not sure what that means. Done in live competition with a ref present? If so, hard to dispute. You score about 1K per minute in Space Invaders or Deluxe Space Invaders, so 425K would be 425 minutes, or over 7 hours. That would be brutal in Space Invaders, but unimaginable in Deluxe Space Invaders. It is repetitive, but it doesn't matter. Those last 3 waves before it resets, particularily in Deluxe, leave absolutely no room for error. With the mystery ship dropping replacements, you not only have to shoot perfectly, you have to time your shots perfectly too or it's over. There are no cheats on this game, no places to hide, no places to take some time off, no way to build up extra men to take a break. To keep up that unrelenting pace for 7+ hours, well, I'll just say I doubt it.

Lastly, something is majorily out of wack if the record for Space Invaders is only 55K and Deluxe is 425K. Deluxe is significantly harder. Then again, back in the day, I knew many people that could break 55K on SI, I was far from the best in my area. On Deluxe, we never saw or heard anyone hitting 50K. We knew some hit in the 40k's (I was one).

Just a random thought on "outliers" on high score boards, especially the ones that seem totally incomprehensible...could be an extreme example of hyperfocus. There are times when I've gone back to games that I know I totally barfed on 6-8 months ago, but because my mind is in a different place, I'll do exceptionally well for a while, then tank. This usually happens for me with rhythm games, or any game that's dependant on tracking large amounts of fast moving objects. Puzzle games sometimes too.

But yeah, TG definately has scores that are really incomprehensible. I think with enough practice I could end up on the Bosconian lists, (The actual listed WR's seem incomprehnsible to me..) but to me, the scores on MAME seem so low I'm just not sure if most people are just that BAD at Bosconian and it's really that hard, or there's just nobody playing it.

I got WolfMAME up and running with it last night, so we'll see if it happens or not. :)

*edit* One more thing to add along the hyperfocus thought...I have a much EASIER time tracking objects moving quickly than slowly or erratically fast/slow. When I used to play DDR on emulator with the keyboard, I would turn some slow songs up 300-400% just to do better on them. =\ Same deal with the Konami fireworks game on Xbox Live that I can't rememer the name of.....harder to do slow patterns than fast ones for me.

Easy to dispute....or at least question.
I've inquired about a few different "referee verified" scores and asked about documentation since many of those scores are 25-30 years old. If there is no documentation (ledgers, article clippings, 20 year old scratchpad, whatever) then how did they know what scores to post onto the web site when IT was created?
I got no response.

But to add to the OP's question.... Hyperball.

I don't trust TG for any of their records. They just seem shady/wishy washy in that regard. I'd believe someone posting a record on here more than on TG. And ref verified scores? Really? This is what I thought of when I read that.

Sorry,it's the only thing I could find on youtube.

After the way TG acknowledged Billy Mitchell's DK WR record by way of that crappy video on the King of Kong,I wouldn't be surprised if a large amount of TG scores were indeed bogus.

Anyway, back on topic. There are a couple of games I could probably hold the record in,but honestly they aren't something I really care to chase. It is interesting watching elite players wail on a game, but in the long run only a select few people are really going to care if you are a WR holder in a certain game or not.

So I'll just play my games for fun instead of competition. :)

EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP AND OPEN PALM SLAM A VHS INTO THE SLOT. ITS CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK AND RIGHT THEN AND THERE I START DOING THE MOVES ALONGSIDE WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER, RIDDICK. I DO EVERY MOVE AND I DO EVERY MOVE HARD. MAKIN WHOOSHING SOUNDS WHEN I SLAM DOWN SOME NECRO BASTARDS OR EVEN WHEN I MESS UP TECHNIQUE. NOT MANY CAN SAY THEY ESCAPED THE GALAXYS MOST DANGEROUS PRISON. I CAN. I SAY IT AND I SAY IT OUTLOUD EVERYDAY TO PEOPLE IN MY COLLEGE CLASS AND ALL THEY DO IS PROVE PEOPLE IN COLLEGE CLASS CAN STILL BE IMMATURE JEKRS. AND IVE LEARNED ALL THE LINES AND IVE LEARNED HOW TO MAKE MYSELF AND MY APARTMENT LESS LONELY BY SHOUTING EM ALL. 2 HOURS INCLUDING WIND DOWN EVERY MORNIng

Joe - you're probably right. As I mentioned before, I have no recollection on how long we played BITD on a quarter. My thoughts were of the recent WR beaten in Asteroids. I don't remember how long he played (50+ hours?). Thats unreal to me - I never had access to games other than "business hours" so something like that never crossed our minds.

I would liken SID to Gorf. John's current WR took ~4 hours. Its similar to SID, 4 lives, no significant rest periods, etc. Thats the reason why I wasn't convinced that the SID score was bogus. I don't know if John could play another 3+ hours of Gorf or not.

Oh well, maybe someone will break it ala Asteroids.

My 3 ship WR game took 4 hours 45 min. I recently "up'd" my own 6 ship WR, playing the damn thing for almost exactly 6 hours. I did it tired; and I think in perfect rested conditions I could possibly play for 8 hours. Not sure if I would really want to try, unless someone endangers my scores....

I agree, though. There could be that ONE person that is/was an absolute master at SID and just happen to put up that score. I had a lot of people doubt my score(s); and probably rightfully so. I just happen to be really good at the game, its just that simple. When I put up 750K at Funspot in front of Walter Day that helped ease the doubters...

Thanks John - I knew I was off on the numbers a bit. I forgot about your 6 ship WR as well!

My Gorf is down at the moment, your WRs are safe :D

i have beaten the world record for taitos space chaser , but twin galaxies rejected it because it was not done on there preferences of wolfmame , despite i have the ipn here with me , valid :(

so now i have to get THERE version of mame and attempt it again.

it took me 3 years to achieve this.. it sucks.

I can and regularly beat the Point Blank record. It has more to do with what games you get selected on that one. I have gone thourhg an entire MK1 game with Double Flawless Fatalities, but i am not sure if the record holder did that with a faster time, or fought reptile.

I saw a Point Blank "record vid" on youtube, but it was bs done on the PSOne. No recoil guns, makes it a lot easier. And although it was a high score I have scored higher.

I emailed asking about what needs to be done to verify a record, as I have a dedicated machine, but never got a response.

I will eventually break the record for The End, Since I have one of the only confirmed original exidy hard hat boards I'm pretty sure I can get that world record for the arcade version. Basically there is no current arcade HH score so every score I put up is a world record. Pretty sure I have a good shot at pepper II if I practice.

I could only get a WR on a JAMMA board I own, that they've never had a submission for before.

None my 2 kids under 2 yrs. Old are sucking my life away. I m still mame wr holder on bumper cars, only 2 on the list lol

Pepper II is the BOMB

I think I can officially get the Sinistar record.

You can see that I have three scores higher than the listed WR of 761,305. But I achieved those like five years ago. I tried a few games recently and had trouble getting above 400K at these requried settings:

First Extra Ship At: 30,000
Additional Extra Ship Points Factor: 30,000
Ships Per Game: 3
Difficulty of Play: 5
Continuous Fire: Yes
High Score To Date: Allowed

I'm 58 and my reaction times just aren't what they used to be--warrior ships coming in fast tend to nail me now when that rarely happened before. When I have time, I'll see if I can get played in.
