Hey all,
I suppose this is another way to ask your all time favorite arcade company, but what game company do you think has a solid enough lineup that you could fill a whole game room with. And what games make you choose them.

Personally, MY all time favorite company is KONAMI, but I don't know if a room of Konami games would make a good gameroom. Now Capcom, maybe.

So what company would you design your gameroom around and why.

Ataricade, Konamicade, Capcade, Namcopia, DECAcade, Nintendoland....

if pinballs are allowed in this.

hands down.

gottlieb.

data east would be ok also i guess

Without a doubt Sega.

Maybe Sega didn't have the best lineup of classic games in the early 80's, but they dominated the arcade scene from 87' on with their unbeatable driving games.

I would say Atari, with Williams being a close second. I LOVE Williams Pinballs, I just like the way they feel.

Atari would probably be the winner due to the quantity of quality games. Midway would probably hold it's own as well. Many other companies only managed to make a handful of truly great titles.

Although pretty much everything they did was on a home console as well, I would say Nintendo.

Capcom or Neo Geo would be a very close second. I LOVE 2D fighters

I have to both disagree and agree with you.

Nintendo: Arcade versions were and still are way better than the NES versions (Other than PC-10 which is just a NES on a timer). Also, as much as I love Nintendo arcade games, I feel that an arcade with only Nintendo games wouldn't be as appealing as other companies (Atari, Williams, Sega, Capcom, etc.) who have more of variety of games over a longer period of time. Whereas, Nintendo strayed away from arcade games after the mid-80s (NES launched in 1985) due to the success of their home consoles. A good example is my game room. I have mainly Nintendo games, but I'm pretty much done in that aspect other than maybe Punch-Out!

Capcom and SNK/Playmore (Neo Geo): Capcom is definitely a strong favorite along with Sega for guys like me who grew up in the late 80s and early 90s (aka Silver Age). However, SNK/Playmore made games mainly for the Neo Geo MVS which would constitute only 1 type of machine in your arcade. So it wouldn't be the best company of choice IMO.

I would vote Atari first, Midway second, Williams third, Konami fourth.

Fortunately, I don't have to make that choice and have games from all of them!

for me it's Midway hands down.....pacman, ms pacman, tron, discs of tron, nfl blitz, killer instinct, galaxian

atari has a great line-up of games of course but once ya get past the vectors it drops off to much for me.

Atari no doubt. They had it all: trackball games, color vectors, B&W vectors, cockpits and the Warlords cocktail. Their minis had full size monitors. You could have a serious line up with Atari alone.

1. Atari, 2. Williams, 3. Bally/Midway.

The main reason I chose nintendo, is, until recently I've been mainly a console gamer/collector. I'm just starting out in the arcade. I'm a little young for the arcade's silver age, but that also kind of makes me just the perfect age to have grown up with Nintendo by my side.

and good point with the SNK/Playmore... I didn't really think of the fact they have one machine that plays pretty much all of them, lol... wouldn't be much of an arcade room...

I knew that Atari would be the hands down winner for choice. They had more games and more original titles and types. The Vectors, color vectors, puzzle games, warlords, Firefox, Star Wars, ....

And while some of my favorite titles come from Midway like Galaga, Tron,...I didn't figure Bally Midway would have a diverse enough lineup.

Like I said in the original post, Konami is my favorite company and it actually has a long history if you consider games they licensed to other companies. Classics like Frogger & Gyrus, great vertical and horizontal shooters (Gradius,Xexex,Salamander 2), beat em ups(TMNT, Xmen,Simpson, Crime fighters), and even 1 or 2 fighters like martial champions. Plus you have all the new stuff thats come out in the last 10-15 years.

Capcom is the same deal. Games from all genres and multiple great examples in each. Great Shooters, great beat em ups, and great fighters. I would venture, you could make a good gameroom with just the CPS-II games. Add the CPS-1 lineup and you would have a great lineup albeit a neo classical one.

Never been one for the Williams lineup, but too many people love em for them not to be a great group of games. I do think I would like blasteroids if I ever got to spend serious time with it. And Robotron, and Defender would probably get addictive in a hurry. But I don't think I will ever get Joust.

So I think if I was going to put just one game company in a gameroom, my choices would be
1. Atari
2. Capcom
3. Konami
And if I was rich, I'd just fill it with WPC pins. Scared Stiff, Monster Bash, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Addams Family, Twillight Zone,........................................................
..........................................................you get the idea.
