What a waste....

atleast he didn't destroy the arts. slap a crt and game back in there and it can be saved.

My confusion lies in that you buy an old cab that been beat to piss, rip everything out and redo it. Why the hell don't you just build one from scratch it would be a whole lot easier than refurbing the old cabinet.

Well, I think this one was butchered in the name of making a quick buck. He's had that one on CL here for a while, listed at random prices between $894 and $901.

It could be like my situation; I have a Burger Time cab that's complete except for the boardset. I /could/ search around for a working board, then cross my fingers and hope when I plug it in it doesn't blow up. Or I could get a $75 48-in-1 and a JAMMA to Burger Time adapter and plug it in.

No, I'm not going to pop a 48-in-1 in there.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm NOT multi-bashing here. I agree there is a place for a multigame, I just don't think that is a good cabinet choice to multi. Why not use a generic or converted/converted/converted cabinet? I just don't like the idea of using something like that. If it was already jamma wired and painted black 20 years ago, okay, but to use a dedicated cabinet? I wouldn't. But, at least he did not totally wreck the cabinet, point in his favor.

I can maybe tell you why, not that I agree with it.

burger time game with bad board
board $100 to $150
sell for $400 to $500

burger time game with bad board
jamma harness $15
multi board $70
sell for $800 to $900

We collectors are our own worst enemy. No one here is willing to step up and pay $1000 for a ok shape "classic" but the public will pay that for a "classic" multi.

I have a kung fu master in awesome shape that I tried to sell for $100, no one wanted it.
But if I buy a jamma to irem adapter and throw a multi in it, there would be so much crying you would think old yeller was being streamed by klov.

I think a multi-game in a nice Burgertime cabinet is MUCH cooler than a multi-game in a generic cabinet.

The multi-games that I've seen can even PLAY Burgertime. After seeing someone post this:
http://www.jammaboards.com/store/jamma-pcb-to-pacman-cabinet-adapter/prod_273.html , I'm happy to know that a classic cabinet has not been hacked to hell and can be 'restored' with minor effort.

K

Why not... ? burger time is a great cabinet. It is supported on the 48 in one. Everytime someone does this.

My thoughts are that it is the art work that needs to be saved. The game is really secondary. The difference in the game for me aren't noticable. That being said painting over that would be a shame.

I like burgertime, but I don't want to dedicate one of the possibly 30 spots in my basement to it, but add 47 other games to it and wham. It becomes my kids favorite, a game that gets a lot of attention when we have parties, and helps you get a return on your investment when you decide to sell it.

I think I understand why people don't like the conversions of machines like this, but it is a losing battle. How much longer are these old boards going to last? How many more years before all these old caps get so dried out that nothing will work? When will we all have to replace tubes with LCD or LED monitors someday?

I will probably get some crap...but I am looking for cool cabinet with a bad board so that I can make a nice 48 in one.

This is exactly why I asked the question about the Circus Charlie cab I have. Some people (me) just don't KNOW.
