What a $40 mystery game looks like

This is the sort of video game cabinet I'd expect a movie company from the 80's to design. It looks like it is a part of some stand up video/film splicing work station.

I've seen a couple of these ugly cabs FS in the bay area. one I recall was tetris. I think there was another one that I've seen someone dressed as a Neo Geo.

How did you pull out the control panel with that coin meter there? Isn't it wired to something? I'm still getting a kick out of a coin meter mounted in a control panel. Maybe they thought it would be a good way to get people to play:

"Look Dad, this game has over 80,000 plays ... it must be awesome."

Or:

"Can I have another quarter Mom? I want to watch this number go up again."

the coin meters are there so they can keep track of audits. Those cabs were often used in movie theaters. They used to be common in the bay area.

They have a front drawer slide out setup like an atari drawer cabinet.

Usually they had good monitors in there.. Never seen one with a remote like that. I would have guessed hantrex 900. Normally I think they had g07's in there.

Not sure why they wanted the counter out front like that. The game board moves with the drawer. The power supply and all that are connected with fairly long harnesses that give enough room to allow you to slide the drawer out.

Now I need to decide what's better for the Tapper....a totally rebuilt G07 with pretty bad Tapper screen burn. Or a slightly screen burned Hantarex with whatever game is burned into it.

Anyone out there have a nice G07 with minimal screen burn that I can swap my chassis into?

At least in the north Texas area UA operated arcades in malls with UA theaters in them under the Electronic Experience name. They were pretty cool, they had monitors mounted in the wall facing out into the mall. They were actually hooked up to games in the arcade so you could see if they had a new game just by scanning the monitors. I've looked around the net, but haven't had much luck finding any more info or pictures of these arcades.

The cabinets also came in a duel game and monitor setup. It was similar to a Nintendo Vs. unit, except the cabinet was straight with a common coin mech located between the two monitors. You had to use a dial to select which game you wanted to play before you inserted a quarter. I think they did this to try and operate two games with one tax sticker. I don't know if they were successful or not. Also, I think the visible coin counters were standard. I remember them from back in the day.

Sorry, speaking geek. :D

tl;dr stands for "Too Long, Didn't Read" when a thread is gigantic when you first see it. I was guessing what game it was, even though it had already been "uncovered."

Just being dorky, don't mind me...

you miught not have a choice for two reasons.
1: that hantrex mighy be universal mount and moght not work with tappers monitor brackets.
2: tapper pcb might not want to work correctly with the Hatrex monitor. They usually like g07.. So try it outside the cab before to go throught the hassle of swapping it..

Yeah it may be more work than it's worth. Maybe I should consider doing my first tube swap on the existing g07 instead. The chassis has been completely gone through so it should be bullet proof. Just don't know which tube to use for it. There's an electronics recycling place near me where I can pick up old tv's all day long for cheap though if I knew which one to get.

This apparently on sale for $125 instead of the projected $300

This is what $40 looks like when you add a service charge swapping hands.
Too bad the monitor didn't work out for you John

I think you are secretly more about the hunt than about the collecting.

I love the hunt. I love working on them and fixing them (even though I'm not great at it). I love playing them and having people over to play them. I have limited room though so I only have a few "keepers" and many that come and go to support the habit.

Ok I'm giving bclark first shot at it but if anyone wants this for what I have into it, it's yours. Otherwise I plan to spam CL with ridiculous ads until someone either buys it or shames me into taking them all down somehow.

Thank you very much.

I appreciate that, bbut I'm going to pass. If you want what you have into the Tapper on the other hand... :)
Seriously I think I'm going to hold out for a Tapper or Star Wars as my final machine.
