Got a dirt cheap on a fix'em'up cabinet today. The guy I found on Craigslist just wanted it gone to make room for his new bike in his shed. He originally quoted $75, but out of despiration because I was running late for the viewing he lowered to $25. He says the monitor does not seem to work, the original's tube got cracked during transportation so this one that had been put in to replace the original doesn't seem to work.....but its a mess of wires so I'm pretty sure it needs just some look throughs to get it up and running hopefully.

Evidently this had a bit of water damage, and when the original screen got cracked its because it fell over in his truck......

On top of that when I released the control panel locks and tried to lift up they just plain fell off.......no freakin hinges or safety chains....

And the marquee seems to be clipped off on the left....

More to come in the next post.
....I need to stop browsing Craigslist...............running out of space for this stuff

So first thing I decided to do was take out the flash light and take a look inside.....
You'd be amazed the things I found of how bad some of this wiring was done....

Not all the monitor chasis cables are not hooked up properly....

They just shoved these wires in the service outlet, that feeds both the monitor and psu........BAD!

Leave'em cut like that, I'm sure everything will work fine.....

Overall of the power board with ISO transformer......big mother

New PSU they sneaked in, guess something is wrong with the power board....

All I know is that this cabinet may have a heftier amount of work that needs to be done. I mean for $25, what should I expect! Anyways, I may need some help with this, I have yet to learn how to repair monitor chasis, power boards, and PCBs. He said that portion is working and just the monitor......but from what I can tell from the horrible wiring that he paid dirt cheap as well to get some of it repaired.

That's the first time I've seen that done where someone just shoved wires into the power outlet like that. Classic.

That's what a $25 Taito cabinet looks like. Is the water damage mostly limited to the pedestal? If so, that's an easy fix.

Do you plan to restore it back to Taito cabinet appearance?

I do plan to restore it as best as I can. yeah looks like the water damage is limited to just the very bottom of the cabinet. The pedestal is puckering and the baseboard is splitting.
My hope is that I can easily fix that portion without completely starting from scratch but I noticed the front portion where the coin mech sits has a large crack going down along side the coin mech's wall. Probably from where it fell in the truck as the original owner had told me.

Right now I need to work on getting a storage/workspace at maybe one of the local storage facilities nearby so I can do big detail work. Does anyone know if standard U-Haul facilities offer such workspaces? I might be able to find a local brand named storage facility though.

Nice find. I haven't been watching craigs in the past week, I'm holding off on any new games until I get my garage converted and fixed up, but damn, for $25 I would have been all over that.

This is a picture of the Power Board and ISO. Which actually turns out to be a big mess of stuff and missing cables or pieces.

I haven't a clue if it is or was functioning, all i know is that they had a small PSU and the monitor plugged into the service outlet by just bare wire leads...no connectors.......can't imagine it working to well without the ISO in use.

I'm not sure if I myself could get this up and working if it needs work, but I certainly need to know if I that ISO will work for the monitor. Any suggestions?

Ok, I know for sure that right now it seems that big transformer is not working, or the AC lines that it covers for ISO are not getting enough voltage. I haven't checked the lower voltage outlet though. And the Taito Power Board does not power up, no LEDs lit or nothing. Figures, the water damage caused might of hit it badly as well as that pedastal's puckering.

Now this is an IF because I'm uncertain how easy I can find me a proper wiring harness for a Taito cab like this. I've seen a few power boards on Ebay for $20, but there is no transformer bundled with it. Plus it seems filter boards are hard to come by as well.

What I really need if I want to do a classic resto, is to have a full Taito wiring harness loom to add on to any filter boards or power boards I can scrounge up online.

Otherwise.

I will make my own little Power station, lol, with ISO for the Monitor and just that PSU if it works fine. That would eliminate costs and hard finds!

I can see the front of the machine above the coin door is cracked. Still, not bad for a taito cab and it is repairable.

From what I was reading on another recent thread, Taito power supplies aren't worth fixing, and to replace them with a switcher.

They are junk. The problem is you will need a reset circuit for alot of the taito boards so you can either fix the original PS or build your own reset circuit and run a switcher.

Well among the many other things that need to be repaired......i decided to test the game board and look what i got.....

I guess the consequences for not using an ISO.......
Lucky I had my own Final Fight board before I got this one, I'll just swap em until I get repairs on the Main board. I already tried swapping out rom boards to see if any of the roms were causing issue and they were just fine running on my first main board.

May get a post of this in the Repair forums
