What a $20 Rip Off and Asteroids Deluxe look like (and a free Omega Race)

I had checked into these a while back because they seemed like a decent deal...I forget how much they were listed for but somewhere around $100 each. But the guy texted me and told me they were long gone.

So I got a text from the guy this morning out of the blue telling me that these were for sale at a thrift store not to far from where I live. When I called the lady up she said they still had them and they reduced the price...sounded like she said they were $130 and $120 each but when I repeated it back she said, "No, 1 for $30 and 1 for $20" but we are having a sale today and everything in the store is 20% off. Apparently they would have been 40% off tomorrow but I didn't think it would be prudent to wait.

So I went and loaded them up for $40 for the pair. They both appear to be complete but both need work. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the bezel was loose on the Rip Off due to some top corner damage so while I was driving home it fell forward and cracked. :( Bummed about that one.

I haven't done any real testing. But the AD just makes beeping noises when I press buttons when I power it up and there's no video. The player buttons are on solid. There's no test switch on the thing just wires hanging down so I don't think it's in test mode.

The Rip Off gets a pic as show...sorry for the fuzzy image. When I press buttons some kinds of ships appear and move around but it's not right.

Not sure why it said I had 6 pics in the other so it wouldn't let me embed the last one in the previous thread. Weird.

Anyway, the Rip Off is really clean looking inside and the Asteroids doesn't look bad either. Both have some cabinet damage but nothing that can't be repaired other than my botched Rip Off bezel.

Unfortunately, cabinet repair is the one thing I'm totall ill equiped to work on since I don't have a garage. I'd have to haul them outside to work on them and we are just going into the rain season so I'm not sure if I'll keep them or not.

There's no water damage. Just banged around damage.

Nice score. I have never seen a Rip Off in the flesh before. It can't be the most common game to stumble across.

Well it appears to play right....except that each vector is a small vertical line rather than vectoring off into the correct direction. I wonder if that's a board problem or a monitor problem. I took some video but haven't been able to upload it yet. Also there's no sound yet. I'm assuming there should be sound. I never played this game back in the day. Wish it was an Armor Attack or Star Castle. :)

Really wish I hadn't ruined the plastic bezel. Anyone have a spare? Shipping those probably sucks though.

Heh, sounds similar to my weekend, so far I have picked up a $100 pinball and a $175 Wizards Of Wor, which I will be posting about tomorrow. Man I want an asteroids deluxeto sit next to my regular asteroids! You jerk!

Yeah, I got it for $20 so if I put a cap kit in it and get it fully functioning and clean it up right now I can probably sell it for $50 here in California! Yay. ha ha

Actually I'd like to have working AD for a while as well. I enjoy that game. Never had one before.

Yeah, I personally haven't played much AD to really know the difference between it and regular asteroids but darn it looks cool with the reflective mirror.

Wow, why do I keep spending hundreds of dollars more for my games? Nice score, I'm jealous!

Wow, great score! If you're gonna fall off the wagon, do it with a bang! :D

So somebody lost some $$$ somewhere between the time the original seller sold them and you bought them at the thrift store - I wonder what the story is with that...

Nice job, not buying anythi...

*coughing nervously*

You're seriously as bad as Noice.

No, I think his original post was for the owner of the Thrift Store to sell them but whoever was supposed to get them flaked so they just lowered the price and didn't advertise them again.

Now you're gettin nasty.

First of all, it is not next year, so you fail! But...I understand. :)

Second, emoticons count as an image.

I bet Mrs. Jehuie was thrilled when those showed up.

She was remarkably understanding. Since I unloaded some things earlier there was room out there without making the game room non-functional. It wasn't pressure from her that was making me want to slow down.

What about post #7 here?

....I am as guilty as most of hoarding these goddamned machines but I have toned down buying games. I only bought 3 games this entire year. I "only" dragged home three 300 lb arcade games.
