i plan to develop an in depth understanding of the defender code, and i have the "M68DIS, v0.9, AB Associates" disassembler.

Can anyone recommend a better disassembler and assembler to use for 6809 microprocessor code ? or a source for a newer version ?

DOS or windows platform preferred (my laptop is not setup for dual boot at the moment).

Cheers!

I have been playing with 6809dasm. There are some files out there for decoding Defender, Stargate, Joust, Robotron, splat, Bubbles and Sinistar that may be of some help.

The version I am using was modified by Sean Riddle. I am not sure where to get it now, as it looks like Sean's pages are down or moved.

If you have trouble finding it, let me know. I can email you the original zip file.

You can always use the MAME debugger and have it dump its disassembly. I have a couple standalone 6809 disassemblers. I prefer to use a little Perl script that Jon Deitch wrote (Google and I'm sure you'll find it), mainly because I can easily edit the script and tailor the output to how I like it. As for assembly, that's usually best done by hand (unless you're working on some big project).

I use as09 / d09 (under linux), but they should both compile fine under dos too...
