What’s wrong with my V2000/G05 B&W vector monitor?

@Braido, sounds like your r100 is shorted. You may want to remove R100 and R101 and check their Ω value with your multimeter. Then replace these resistors, or consider jumpering both of these after removal with 18ga wire as suggested in the OP

Thx buddy, that did it! I didn't know about this mod so thx again for the heads up.

I discharge with a direct wire ( with an aligator clip) attached to a screwdriver. Holding the screwdriver clear of the metal

Reviving this old statement to serve as a modern warning: Discharging a B/W vector monitor WITHOUT a resistor in line WILL BLOW THE HV DIODE. THESE ARE $15 each... plus shipping.... if you can find one.

You can discharge a Raster (standard) monitor with or without the resistor. You CANNOT discharge a vector without the resistor. So... make or buy the tool with the resistor and use it for everything. Then you won't have to think about it ever again.

1979 ASTROIDS game monitor issues, please help.

If anyone can help,
I recently got this game and it worked fine BUT me being me I "had" to clean the plexiglass and the monitor! I made sure not to get anything else wet, after I put it back together there were lines going to all the astroids and ships, it look like it's from the algorithm possibly? I've been told by TNT Amusement that it possible got brighter, like a soldier joint came loose, but I have no idea where to even start to look.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

My asteroids deluxe does a little bit of intermittent jumping. I have a stable picture most of the time, but occasionally it squeezes in from left and right, then jumps back to normal position.

I'm bumping this thread so I remember to refer back to it.

Replace your linearity pots if you haven't done so. Its the 2 small ones they're cheap but it did the same for me dw its an easy fix the old ones rust really easy.

Do you mean on the asteroids deluxe pcb? (I've changed them on tempest and major havoc before).

I'm trying to track down replacement R100/R101 resistors. I know I can replace them with straight wire, but I'd rather replace them with resistors. The ones in mine are labeled:

8016 TRW PW15 5ohm 10%

The real bob Roberts has one listed as: 15 watt 3.9 ohm cement WW resistor

Will that work? If not, can someone link me to some replacements?

EDIT: If someone has a link to a place that sells these that takes credit cards, that'd be appreciated!

Thanks!

You don't need them. They cause more harm then good if they're bad just add wire if they're good no worries

Thanks for the link

I'm struggling with that. I'm trying without the resistors now. However, I'm concerned about the additional stress on the other components. I guess I can leave it and see what happens.

They're totally unnecessary, and were actually removed from later revisions of the monitor. I know a lot of people like to upgrade components on their 6100s so they're closer to the last revisions of the hardware. If you want to do the same for your B&Ws, cut them off.

I have several B&W vectors I've worked on where I've removed them, and they've all been rock solid for years. You have nothing to worry about.

No sir the ones on the deflection board the 1k5's

look in the manual, its the 2 linearity ones. They're 1k5 trimmers

Ok so I just got around to pulling the deflection board on the AD and installed the 2-1k pots.

I just wanted to make sure that 1k pots are correct? I did a quick measurement on the old ones, and they seem to range a little bit higher than these new ones. (not a thorough test, just a quick dmm check).

If the 1k pots are good, I'll drop this bad boy back in and see what happens.

I guess my concern is that I cut and pasted parts of this thread to order the pots I needed and I received 1k pots. I don't want to install this and flip it on if they are incorrect value.

They should be 1.5K's, not 1K's. You might be able to run with them though, as the pots are usually adjusted around the center, in the monitors I've worked on.

ok, I guess I'll re-install and fire her up.

EDIT: yeah it worked fine. I went ahead and recapped it again (had a BR cap kit in it from a few years back), reflowed solder everywhere. Should be pretty solid now.
The screen looks great.

I have an Asteroids Deluxe with a shrinking picture. I just noticed it happening about a week ago. Picture is fine when game is turned on. As it heats up the entire picture shrinks. By the time it hits max heat, it's about 2/3 the size it should be. It's a correct picture, no distortion. Just scaled down like it's on a 13".
