Hey all!

I decided to replace both the B+ filter cap and the STR381 voltage regulator (on the side of the chassis) on my WGK4900 monitor in my Qbert...just hoping to get rid of some minor ripple that was bugging me.

After I did so, the picture became rather wavy (and the ripple remained). I put back the original filter cap, but the problem persisted. I didn't get a chance to replace the original STR381 as I ended up just putting in another chassis I had laying around that worked just fine, but still I wondering why I got the wavy picture?

Changing the STR381 doesn't even involve any soldering so WTF?

I can just put in the original STR I suppose, but any other reasons this would happen? Do I just need to clean the leg contacts for the STR (where it inserts into the side of the chasis)?

Have you verified by swapping the monitor to another game, or a different monitor into this game, to pinpoint that the monitor is your problem?

I'm currently working on a wavy/ripple problem too (coincidentally on my Qbert) so I'm curious how yours turns out.

Well, the second chassis/deflection board I slapped in there still has the ripple (although it's not as visible I'd say), and the overall waviness is not there. And this waviness was not present with the original chassis before I replaced the B+ cap and the STR 381 so I'm pretty sure it's coming from the chassis assembly.
