I recently picked up a free monitor off of CL. This is my first monitor and I really just picked it up hoping I could do something with it later on.

My somewhat brief search has lead me to believe it is a WG8000. The label on the side says "25k8112" but the board id's don't match the manual. I have P104 (Power Board), P655 (Chassis) and P583 (Neckboard). Is it a common occurrence that the boards don't exactly match what the manual says?

The monitor looks to be in great shape but it didn't come with an isolation transformer. I wasn't having a lot of luck trying to figure out where I might find exactly what it would need there?

Any thoughts? Tips? Mercy for a noob? :)

That might be a medium res.. my k8000 was...

I didnt mess with my chassis, i sent it to chad@arcade cup to get rebuilt.

Depending which version you have, one k8000 was used in race drivin cockpits, its the only monitor that works without picking up steering motor noise/interference

K8000 is crazy

I never established if Ridge Racer was standard or medium res, but we got one with a 33K8000.

the K8000 is special. special in that it is free of any standardized description (there's no standard cap kit, and it's either standard or medium res), and special in that it requires TWO isolation transformers.

also special in that it also carries all the nasty traits that later WG monitors had as well.. particularly shitty build quality. I had to do a flyback on ours and every single solder pad came off, and I didn't have my iron even on that long when I did it. also prone to cold solder up the ass.

but when they work, I suppose they're ok. you're also already aware that they have separate power supply boards. I suppose the concept back when it was made was that if there was a power supply failure, you just change the power supply board out..

despite all the advancements WG made after the K8000, I'm intrigued that the later high resolution U3000 followed the same pattern, down to the square neckboard, the same heatsinks, and the separate power supply board. though I think that one doesn't need an iso at all, our Road Burners with one just plugs direct into the game's power supply.

I've capped and replaced a flyback on a K8000, as well as reflowed numerous parts. that's the extent of my experience with it. I would send arcadecrt a PM if you have questions about the K8000.. I figure that one's a not-KLOV-friendly monitor (like the Hantarex Polo) so don't be surprised if nobody has any knowledge to offer about it.

How do you tell if it is standard or medium resolution? Is there an easy way without powering it on?
