This 7602 was delivered to me dead. Flyback looked questionable and needed caps.

Capped it, replaced the HOT and Flyback. Monitor came up REALLY bright, I was able to turn the brightness down to a better level by turning the screen control all the way to its stop. About 30 seconds later it suddenly sounds like it is straining or out of sync, the HV is much louder than normal and sounds like it's doing damage. And again the screen is too bright. Turned off immediately.

Turned on quickly to measure B+ and have 124V on Blue wire to resistor from 30123.

I just bought the flyback and HOT (1398) from Xanen, fresh from China. How likely is it that the new one is simply bad or did I just miss something else?

Before I power this up again I would love to hear some ideas on whats wrong with it and if I killed the new flyback.

i would check for a bridged solder joint.

also check your brightness and contrast pots they may be broke.

make sure the anode is clean and the clips are seated properly in the hole.

if that doesn't work check all the big resisters around the flyback. one may be going bad or the solder needs re-flowing on them.

The thicker wire from fly is the focus wire.
Could have them switched focus and screen voltage
On the neck board??
Crt and neck board have a good ground?
