Just capped my 7400. Was heavy on the green and washed-out on the color overall. Plugged the chassis back in, and picked up a new issue: The colors are slightly better but had some horizontal lines along the top of the screen. I've seen this lines before. The usually go away when I turn down the intensity on the flyback.

So, I go to turn down the flyback, the lines begin to disappear and the colors begin to correct themselves, but glue around the dial keeps it from sitting still.

So I power off the game, cut the glue off from the dial, turn it back on, and this is what I have now:

I can hear the game playing just fine. What the heck did I do? In a matter of 60 seconds of cutting off glue, then turning it back on my screen has shrunk down to 2 inches high???? I am currently eating lunch, but plan on going back out to recheck all my new cap's solder areas. Anything else I need to check or will i be buying a new 7400 chassis?

Check to make sure the remote board and yoke connectors are plugged in properly...

double checked all my connectors. connected perfectly. yoke connectors are on fine. Like I said, it was real weird becuase it worked, then right after I removed the glue from the flyback dial, it shrank. I can tell that the image is looking great on the tube, it is just smashed down horizontally.

All my solder looked fine on all joints, I passed over all 39 of them just to be sure. Nothing.

What else could have caused my screen to smash down?

interestingly enough, I found that there are no resistors on the 603,604, and 605 neck board spots. almost looked as though there could have been 3 at one time. But there hasn't been anything there since I've had it.

When you capped it, did you cut off all the excess capacitor leads? Or by chance did you miss one?

yup cut them all off. I'll check again to see if any landed in the board somewhere. Are you leaning towards possibly I shorted something out?

I am outta ideas. I've looked over everything. Unplugged and replugged in all connectors. Remote board seems to work as brightness will raise and lower when the pot is turned. Nothing is broke. Rechecked all my caps. Reflowed all solder. Everything works as it should. Color levels, focus, flyback intensity, and remote board all seem to do what they need to do.

The monitor still has a smashed screen.

I thought possibly some part of the chassis had touched the monitor frame and grounded something out, but I made sure to sit it properly so as to have no part touching any metal.

I guess that's it. The monitor was working fine, then I put in a cap kit on my 27" WG7400 and it went to shit. Bummer. Who has a new chassis for sale? I'm screwed.
