I have a 90% working WG6100 I will be re-capping. It appears to be pretty stock... no LV kit... the extra "riser" board I've seen on some 6100's isn't there... etc.

It works though there about 1" or so of collapse on the left side of the screen.

I plan on adding a LV6100/LB2000. I am going to order a Bob Roberts cap kit though he offers 4 different versions. I forgot what I bought last time. I already have the transistors that mount to the frame though I was under the impression that I shouldn't replace them unless they're bad... right? Will a single transistor going bad cause the collapse I mention? If so, anyone know which transistor matches up with the left side of the screen (if it even works that way).

Also, which kit should I get? The basic or the basic and added parts kits? Again, I already have the big transistors if needed.

you confirmed it wasnt a board problem? Sounds like something is incorrectly biased in the driver stages, if the board is ok. Not an output transistor problem.

Actually...I've not. I suppose I should start by pulling the WG from my Tempest and trying it out.

Here's a photo of the problem BTW:

It's hard to see in the photo, but there is a strip of about 1" up and down the left side...where all the vectors bunch up. You can really notice it when there are bright things on screen that go to the left... it lights up like a vertical line. If you look closely you can see the individual vectors, but they're bunched up. When adjusting the boardset, you can adjust the vector images in to and out of this corrupted area... hence the reason I "assumed" it was a monitor issue.

That should be LV6100/LV2000... Mark Spaeth sells the LV6100 and I think Arcadeshop sells the LV2000.

I'm still wondering which Bob kit I should get though if I want to "bulletproof" this chassis.

When your adjusting it "in and out" of the bad zone, are the vectors fixing themselves? i.e. do they look normal, but just shifted to the right? It looks to me like something is clipping the signal. It could be an op amp in the output section, or something on the input/drive section of the circuit. If your pretty sure its the monitor, start looking at the Y input protection circuitry (if it exists on your deflection bd). Check resistors and diodes.

Good Luck!

Andrew

Dokert makes an extension so you don't have to pull the monitor just unplug it and plug in the extension cable, saves a ton of time.

When i adjust to the left, the vectors entering the "bad" area then get "squeezed"... when I adjust them out of the "bad" area they look fine.

I am not sure what it is yet... I'm going to try to get the Tempest monitor in this weekend.

Yah... but I don't own such a cable unfortunately... and Tempest is in a different room anyway.

:)

Gotcha, I have seen videos of your Arcade (very nice), i remember it had a few rooms one with Football stuff on the walls, I put my Tempest and Space Duel beside eachother so i can test the monitors as my freaking Space Duel always goes down! Good luck with the fix, it will be cool when the new Star Wars kit comes out...
