WG6100 tube swap - Can this be done?

Raster monitors and vector monitors use the same tube, per se.......but....a 6100 uses a 100 degree tube. Every other 19" color video game monitor is a 90 degree tube.

Contrary to popular belief, yes.I have used a 90 degree tube with the 6100 yoke and rings and it looks perfect.Maybe I just got lucky and found the "right" tube,I don't know. But,if you have a 100 degree tube it shouldn't be a problem.

The yoke doesn't sit flush against the tube so I used some pieces of foam to stabilize it.Other than that it looks great. It even converged fine. The only reason I tried this was because the 6100 neckboard fit this tube and I figured I had nothing to lose.

Upon firing it up I can hear the "well I'll be damned" riging out!

Another interesting thing to note is that while the 6100's tube has a different connector than a standard CR-23 raster tube, the actual pinout is the same. So, if you scavenge the tube connector from the TV you took the tube from, and replace the one on the 6100 neckboard with it, that should also work.

Going to be hit or miss on getting the convergence right though.

Do you remember the TV brand? I have been eyeing up a really old RCA 19" from the late 70s at my mother in law's house. I'm gonna have to take a peek inside? :)

Take a look, but RCA made delta gun sets up into the early 80's. Depends on what it is, might not be usable as an arcade tube.

I think it might have been a phillips, but I'm not sure.It has been about 2 years ago now.I just noticed that the neckboard adapter was the right one so I tried it.I do have a Curtis Mathes tv from 1979 that has the correct 100 degree tube in it,so if anyone runs across one of those it would be worth trying also.
