so i'm rebuilding a working 6100 as part of my tempest build and i had this question. should i just do a bob roberts cap kit and a lv6100 install on it, or should i also install the bob roberts additional parts kit as well? didn't know how worth it it is for the extra parts kit or not. opinions?

also, in all the cap kits i've done, i've never installed bottle cap transistors before. does anyone have tips/pointers on installing them?

Use new mica insulators, with the white grease. Make sure you don't install one backwards. Check with meter that the case isn't shorted to the monitor frame.

Do the additional parts. Install the LV2000 first, as it replaces several of the parts and caps. Also, for what ever reason there are a couple of resistors in the "normal" parts kit that get upgraded with the "additional" parts kit. Lay it all out first and save some time. What the previous poster said about checking for shorts is very important. Two of the ones ive just worked on had problems caused by rips in the mica insulators or misaligned transistors.

Change the chassis mounted resistors one at a time if you are not familiar with them. If some knucklehead has soldered in the old ones , then i would leave them alone.

If you have the parts, put them in. if you don't, do what you have and see what happens...
