I'm in the process of trying to revive a dead Space Duel. I can tell that the monitor has never been touched so I plan to do the cap kit. I also ordered the infamous LV2000. Now I see a bunch of chatter about "extra parts". How important are they? Has anyone ever done just the recap and blown off the "extra parts"? Will it be worth the extra 20 dollars?

I've had a 6100 look just fine with a cap kit and an LV upgrade.

I've also done a complete rebuild using Bob's multiple extra parts kit.

Both monitors looked the same to me when finished. The one that just had the cap kit was basically running beforehand. The one with all the extra parts was done for a customer who brought me an "unknown condition" monitor and wanted it all done.

The second one took a lot longer to do....

I bought the extra parts kit once, but didn't even install them all. I would only do it if the board was used for parts or something. Especially since there was overlap with the LV2000 and arcadeshop cap/transistor kits if I recall correctly.

So this sucks. I did all the good stuff, full cap kit, LV2000, and cleaned it all up. Then I cleaned up the monitor and wiped off all the dust, I found this...rut row shaggy!!!

Is that a crack or glue?

Hmm. I never got much response when trying to find a replacement tube when I needed one...

The last place to have them was HBFElectronics. I was one of the last people to get an order in before they dried up. They just drop shipped them from Empire Video/Video Display Corporation. Looks like HBF switched from saying that they don't have them to saying repair and return only. But that probably wouldn't help bad burn or a broken tube. I would guess that it means they will put new guns in, etc.

You might try calling VDC to see if there is any chance in getting a tube.

Good Luck!

I have a 6100 in my tempest that has a 90 degree tube in it from a junk TV.I had to use the 6100 yoke and rings, the only problem was the mounting tabs are facing the other way,so I had to make spacers for it.I know people say it can't be done, but it is worth trying if you can't find the correct tube.It converged quite well also.

Thanks for all the info. I spoke to VDC today, and they said they would need the number from off of the tube. The only intact number that I can find is a PIX serial that starts with "wg". There were several stickers that are faded or torn away. Can anyone tell me this number, or where to find it?

I'm willing to try whatever it takes to get this thing going again.

The tube is 19VLUP22 and is all they should need.

Thanks a bunch VJ. I just placed the order, and it seems I just got the last one, or one of the last.

They seemed to be getting a flood of calls on these, probably due to this posting. LOL

wasn't somebody posting some 4900/6100 tubes on here the other day?

I have been posting about GO7 tubes which are compatible with 4900 and have mentioned that I got a 6100 tube in the past from the same vendor. Not sure if that was it or if there was other conversations. Tester007 has Amp tubes for sale still too.

The new tube arrived today. Will I be able to do this? How difficult will swapping this tube be?

I've installed several cap kits, and made a few board repairs, that's it. I would say that I'm basiclly a noob.

Swapping the tube is pretty easy. Getting convergence done right is a serious PITA... Mark where the purity rings were on the old tube so you can try to put them in the same basic place on the new tube. Anyway, just follow the instructions in the Manual for doing the setup and convergence and you should be able to get it close enough. It just may take you an hour with a nice mirror setup. You really just need remove the parts off of the current tube, unbolt the tube from the frame, bolt the new tube in the frame, and replace the parts on the tube. As I said, marking where things were on the old one can help align stuff on the new one. Also, don't over tighten the yoke or purity rings. Last thing you want to do is crack that new tube with a rookie move. Just think "snug" when doing that stuff.

Good luck and just ask questions if you have any once you look through the manual... Here is a link to the latest Rev of the manual which has the best instructions for the setup.
