Here is the scenario

- Put in cap kit for WG6100
- Have neck glow
- Spot Killer is off
- HV is there 182VDC
- 25V is there
- Video is out of the boardset
- Transistors checked (not grounded)
- No picture - no matter how high the brightness is

Any ideas where to look? I've been through the flowchart and faq but everything points to it working.

Adjusting the screen/focus controls don't do anything?

Can you hear the deflection chatter? Should sound like a squirrel running around in a coffee can.

You have good B+, but do you actually have high voltage? Can you feel static on the face of the picture tube?

Did you ensure that the connector to the neckboard is secure, and that you have B+ present at the neckboard pin?

Ian,
Thanks. I hear the chatter when I turn it on. Sounds like a picture tube static(ing) up.

Focus/Brightness : no effect

I'll look for HV a little further on the neck board.

On the neckboard, there are two pots for each color, to set the cutoff and drive. But I believe on some versions, there is another brightness control on there, off by itself. Neither of mine have this, however.

Just re-read this. You should hear the chatter all the time the spot killer is off. The initial static rush is good, but you should continue hearing the deflection chatter the whole time the game is running.

Usually, when you turn on a game (say, Star Wars), The monitor comes on, you hear the rush of static and the spot killer is on. Then, once the game board has booted enough to output a signal, the spot killer shuts off, and the deflection chatter starts. Do you ever see the spot killer flash on? Do you hear continuous chatter while it's off?

But one thing to note is that you have to turn the color pots in opposite directions to get the color. If you turn them both in the same direction, it's usually dark...

Thanks for your help. When I was doing the cap kit, the red wire from the flyback to the neck board came loose. I soldered it back but my dumbass soldered it back in the wrong place. After looking at the things you suggested, I spotted this mistake. All is well now. THANK YOU!

One last thing. In attract mode at the end of the Tempest logo, it folds down and to the right for a second and then corrects itself. Otherwise, it's pretty clean.

This is a known issue with the game that was fixed in ROM set #3, I believe.

You can upgrade your ROMs to get rid of it, but there's nothing wrong with your game :)

He's using V. 3 Roms.

The issue you are thinking of is the collapse between player 1 and player 2, which was caused by the later rev deflection boards, which V.3 corrected.

So it's not that.

This was fixed by fine tuning x and y size and center. game play is a little small so I'll experiment with max size before collapse. Cheers all!

Convergence is all that's left now. Even audio now works after reflowing and repairing a broke pin on the ARII connector. I wasn't getting audio but accidentally grounded one side of the speaker and audio output was heard. Checked all the grounds and it was fine. I reflowed the connector and one of the ground pins was broken. Either reflowing or fixing the pin fixed it. Loud and clear.
