ok, so i have a 6100 in a tempest missing the top half of the screen. just did a rebuild with bob's cap kit/addl parts kit, and it has a low voltage board on it. jon exidy previously replaced the transistors mounted on the frame.

anyways, finished the rebuild tonight and left the anode unplugged on the tube (figured i'd plug it in when i installed the monitor). long story short, it's late, and i'm tired and i forgot to plug the anode in in my infinite wisdom.

saw the spot killer light upand heard hv chatter, and i saw the anode unplugged (not arcing, thank god). plugged it in and now i have the complete bottom half of the screen, looks good, just missing the top half, which is squeezed into a horizontal line looking at the cabinet.

so, i'm not that great at troubleshooting, and i don't know if i caused this fuckup (i think i did) or it just happened that i missed something or whatever when doing the repair kits.

so does anyone have ideas on what to look at next?

reflow the solder on the sockets of the bottlecap transistors, ie the red, yellow, green wires and the blue, purple, and white and your picture will come back.

did that, and no difference. looking at the 6100 faq, and their description here:

2N3716 (NPN); widely available replacement is NTE284
Q705: +X (right) for horizontal; +Y (top) for vertical
Q605: +Y (top) for horizo ntal; -X (left) for vertical
Q102: output positive (+) power supply
· 2N3792 (PNP); widely available replacement is NTE285
Q706: -X (left) for horizontal; -Y (bottom) for vertical
Q606: -Y (bottom) for horizontal; +X (right) for vertical
Q103: output negative (-) power supply

i think i may have lost q705...

edit - problem is fixed now.

transistors are all ok, and i went over the connectors for the transitors while looking in a mirror to watch the screen. the connector on the def. board that has wiring going to q705 and q706 appears to have bad solder, as when i push on the connector, i get my picture back. so yeah. looks like this problems fixed, and better off, my early morning fuckup didn't cause any issues.
