Jeff Hendrix and Cloggans were kind enough to explain what the wacky Atari daughter boards are that are attached to my two WG6100s.

Input Protection Board
If the Input Protection Board senses no deflection in any direction, it shuts the beam off.

It was added on later to shut down the deflection board if the game board (Tempest, etc) went bad and tried to overdrive the monitor.

When monitors with the protection board were put into a Tempest with rev 2 or older roms, the screen would collapse between players because it wasn't drawing anything on the bottom half of the screen (it would pop back to normal as soon as it drew the game screen again).

Rev 3 of the ROMs put a copyright message at the bottom of the screen when changing players and it solved the problem.

My Questions
So I have the problem that's listed above with my Tempest. The screen collapses when switching between player 1 and player 2. My question on this problem is this: Is there just a single ROM I need to burn or do I need to burn a set to fix this?

Do you have an IPB on your WG6100?

Is there a value add to these input protection boards? There seems to be differing opinions on their usefulness.
