WG6100 in an Asteroids Deluxe cabinet

So on Monday I finally went ahead and did this. It's been on my project list for a while now.

I wanted to see if the 6100 would fit into the AD monitor sled and then see if the whole thing fit inside the cabinet.

I've had a spare sled on hand for about a year. It's an exact duplicate of the original AD monitor sled.

(Thanks to Brian @bdn103 for posting the AD plans on classicarcadecabinets.com a couple years ago. Last summer I sent the plans to a local wood shop, and they cranked out all the pieces for me.)

I was pretty nervous about doing this, for obvious reasons. But the sled fits over the 6100 frame almost perfectly, so it was really just a matter of making sure the bolts/screws fit well and were tight enough.

I put the tube, etc. face down onto our spare bed, then fit the frame around it, lining up the holes in the sled with the holes in the metal frame.

The bolts that keep the 6100 attached to the Space Duel cabinet were too big to go all around. So I found some others that were a bit smaller and used those instead. I don't think I've ever tightened nuts more in my life than I did for this operation!

Of course, if I hear a loud CRASH from the garage as I type this, I will 1) not mention it to anyone here, 2) realize that my idea was stupid, 3) quietly delete this entire thread, 4) go somewhere and cry, and 5) start a different hobby.

Cabinet details

Before installation. This is looking through the open AD cabinet with the control panel down. Monitor awaits its destiny.

And after. The two existing AD bolts and nuts that attach the sled to the cabinet fit perfectly.

I lined up the Space Duel cabinet with the AD cabinet so I could test the monitor. I had to keep the AD control panel open so I could reach the 6100 harness and connector. I unscrewed some of the SD cabinet harness to get enough length/slack, then I brought the cab harness in to connect to the 6100.

I've heard tell about these things called "harness extenders," but I frankly don't believe they exist! No, I'm kidding. I just haven't bothered with them yet. Hey, I wanted to do this the hard way, okay?

With the back door attached. And a view through the coin door. Nice to have the focus and screen controls handy over there on the left.

Well, that's about it.

Oh, would you like to see pics of the actual game, with the background and the black light? And the monitor bezel? With a neutral density filter gel to substitute for the tinted glass??
