I have ordered a cap kit.
I have resolderd a lot of points on all boards.
No visible problem with fly back, but I have ordered one just in case.
There is ticking and a pulsating high-pitch whine accompanying the flashing.

I'm not sure about the brown caps. Maybe it's a mod for something?

The tube appears to be a 25". Apparently the 2774 was not intended to work exclusively with a 27" tube?

Those caps are there on some versions - usually the 27" models. I have a post about them somewhere here.

As for your problem, check Q700 and D700. Check that cap next to the video input (C700?) for a broken trace. Make sure the remote cable isn't cracked on either end, and no pots on the remote board are broken...

Thanks. Found a broken trace on one of the brown caps. That seems to have fixed it up. I left the game on most of the day Sunday and then turned it off for the night. Everything seemed fine. I powered on this afternoon (Monday) and I'm back to the flashing. Irritating thing. Any suggestions.

lines look a little bowed. I would verify the polarity's correct on that one actually. lol
Ya I'm assuming it's correct as I don't see a circle under the positive lead on the board. It's all I can see in the picture though.

The schematic doesn't show that those are supposed to be caps, but they always have caps there when populated. Polarity is the same for all 3, so just match with the others...

Well, I'm having the same problem with the flashing. The other day, I powered it up and it was fine the whole day. I wasn't exactly watching it the whole time, but usually when the flashing starts it doesn't quit so I assume it was fine. The next day, I powered it up and it started flashing after a few minutes.

It wouldn't be a component would it? The fact that the problem is intermittent MUST point to something else, right? I thinking cold solder somewhere, but I'm almost sure I've re-soldered everything on the board.

Should I just go with 8liners or something?

I notice something weird when it happens. Your audio immediately cut out once it started flashing. It seems like your board set drops out and it is trying to come back, flickering the video on and off over and over until it fades away. Strange observation I know, but if you have a different boardset you could temporarily drop in there and test with, it would be good. It might even be you power supply is on the weak side.

I actually replaced the power supply since posting the video. It died while I was working on the monitor. I see what you mean about the audio. It must have been a coincidence of attract sounds. I still have audio while the screen flashes. I still have the original video up since the problem is the same. The screen, when working, looks much better thanks to the cap kit.

I spend the morning re-soldering any points I may have missed the first two rounds of re-soldering. I installed it and it immediately started flashing. I turned it off, cursed for a while,
and then fired it up and it is currently working. I took a stick and tapped on various components around the board and didn't get so much as a flicker. I took a mallet and gave the frame a whack and it's steady as it should be. The problem is beyond me.

Years ago I ordered a board from 8liners and used a TV tube I found on the street in a Ms. Pacman. Could I use a board from 8liners on this game? Is there any way the tube is at fault?
