I have the afore mentioned monitor and it would slowly lose focus. So, I had a second chassis, I capped it and replaced the existing chassis. Now the colors are brilliant, but after a while, the monitor loses focus and I need to readjust it. I'm guessing this is a flyback issue, but it's now happened with 2 chassis.. chasses.. umm.. wtf is the plural..chassi? anyway. I do suppose it's possible both flys are going bad, but wanted to know if there's something else that might cause it external to the chassis?

Thanks,

I've had a multitude of U5000s and K7500s where they all had the same problem, or exhibited what looked like poor convergence, or inability to get the focus just right.

you are correct though. it's a flyback issue. it sucks now, but believe me, when you install the new ones you'll be very impressed at the improvement in quality. :)

new flybacks don't generally come with the white block connector that goes to the G2 on the neckboard (that's the red wire, usually) ... just desolder the pin out of the neckboard and solder the wire in. focus wire replacement is easy, just slide the tab out on the block and pull upward, unhook the wire out of the wire holder and reverse the steps for installing the new one.

and if you already knew how to do that, I'm sorry, not trying to insult your intelligence or anything, lol.

good luck

Cool, thanks mecha187 for the info. I had not replaced a flyback on one of these monitors yet so I did not know about the red or focus wires. Looks like I'll order 2 flybacks and keep a spare chassis for my 3 games that use it.

Thanks again,

ahoy. I've seen some shittier grade flybacks that had different colors for the wiring, but generally the G2 is red, focus is white, and then your CRT ground (crucial) will be black. whenever I rehook a chassis, those are the 3 I keep in mind, as well as the degauss, and I guess AC power helps too. :p

but yeah, don't splice any of those, run them all fresh. the G2 like I said you're more than likely gonna have to solder in yourself, it doesn't hurt anything... had some deluxe uber guru people on here say that's what they do.

and there I thought I was going to quick and easy route... I guess those can pay off sometimes.

Bob's usually has the best prices on them, he'll usually have like a cap kit combo that's $2 less or so. don't shop at Happ, their prices are absurd. not sure about Betson, but probably the same. your other option is Chad, I had to grab a K8000 fly from him, he usually has some more of the oddball stuff in stock.
