WG25k7191 No Picture

I just finished a WG25k7195 (With some help) Flyback had some hairline cracks, but was replaced due to the wonderfull odor it was giving off. Replace the HOT, Caps, and Flyback. Powered it up, and had a brief flash of HV then nothing. Followed the flow chart and had to wait for the VR anyway it was blown... So, I'm sure if your VR is bad and nothing else is wrong it should go into shutdown. I am sure others could confirm, or tell me i'm full of something, but to power it up is your choice of course...

Doubt it. These units are notorious for cold solder joints. Inspect and reflow any that look suspect.

I was only joking around, I did check and double check the the connections and touched up a few spots. The fuse was blown upon further inspection so maybe it would be a good idea just to order the part and wait another week.

You could always use your meter to check it. Fuses blow for all kinds of other issues.

And as far as soldering skills, I've worked on hundreds of monitors, inspected tons of solder, and have often thought I had it all gone over - fired it up and nothing. Then I go over it two or three more times, touching things up here and there AGAIN, before it finally works...

Thanks for all the info I really appreciate it. This forum and its members have taught me allot thanks guys.

I tied firing off my 6p xmen this weekend and both monitors are dead. Can someone send me a copy of the flowchart you speak of?
I can hear static so I'm assuming they're getting HV of some sort but who knows.

Should I just bite the bullet and replace the caps/fly/HOT and VR?
I know for a fact that one of the chassis has white knobs. The other is a K7000 series but not a k7191. It has the picture adjust knobs right on the chassis PCB itself.

I'd definitely replace the white knob flyback.

If you're hearing high voltage then I'd start taking some readings. I'd also replace the caps since you've already got it out. Only replace the horizontal output transistor and VR if you *need* to. No sense spending that $$$ if you don't have to.

I've got both the K7000 caps and fly if you need. LMK.

Thanks Peale. I had a bunch of stuff to order from Bob so I tossed a couple of k7000 rebuild kits in there as well. Looks like the HOT is shorted out on this guy for starters so I'll replace that as well.
