Hey guys,
I'm trying to figure out an issue with my Atari Asteroids. When I turn it on the screen has a shudder or shake to it that doesn't go away and I can't seem to figure it out.
I've recapped the monitor w/ a full BR kit I installed a rebuilt ARII and I even swapped in another transformer assembly and it's still there. I'm guessing it's monitor related but I don't know ANYTHING about X-Y monitors.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

ERIC

Its the potentiometers on the Deflection board. You need to replace all 4 just to be safe but its most likely either the XLIN or the YLIN pots. You have the following:

Contrast -> 500 ohm pot at R514
Brightness -> 100K ohm pot at R517
Y LIN -> 1.5K ohm linear pot at R600
X LIN -> 1.5K ohm linear pot at R700

Hope this helps

Thanks Grant!!!

Not a problem, I was having the shudder issue with both my Battlezone and Asteroids Deluxe. I rebuilt the Battlezone V2000 with all brand new caps and did the recommended upgrades and I still had the shudder issue.

When I pulled it back out, just on a hunch I checked the pots with my fluke multimeter and sure enough I the XOUT was jumping on its resistance without touching the pot.

Monitor has been rock solid ever since.
