I just bought a chassis and neckboard for my u5000 monitor bc the machine didn't come with one. This one has a horizontal white line through the screen. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Was it supposed to work when you bought it, or did you buy it untested?

Well, the obvious thing to check is that you have the yellow and green vertical yoke connectors on the proper pins. Also, you can use a meter to measure the ohms between the two wires to make sure you get a reading.

Other than that, you probably need to replace the vertical IC U601...

It had this problem for the last user but I thought it was just a line on the screen and not the screen just shows one line. Does the yellow and green connector only go on in one direction? Looking torward the front of the machine the green is on the left and the yellow on the right. I can take pics if you would like. It's definately a problem with the chassis or neckboard since I have the same problem as the last user. Thanks for the help again!

the yellow and green are the wires to your vertical yoke. Reversing their positions just makes the picture on the screen go upside-down. As you just have a line, that's not something you would notice.

A horizontal line (on a horizontally-mounted monitor) means you have no vertical deflection. If the yellow and green aren't hooked up, you will see this.

Since the previous owner had the same issue, then your problem most likely isn't with the yoke, and if it's connected to the chassis properly, then the connection is also most likely not the problem.

Replace U601, and cap it if it needs it....

The u601 is TDA1771 right? Also where is that located on the board? What cap are you referring to? I'm kinda new at this so please excuse my ignorance. Thanks so much!

"cap it" means to replace all the polarized electrolytic capacitors on the board.

As for U601:

Sorry to butt in here but what could it mean if you replace the TDA1771 on a U5000 and the image is still distorted? It's not quite a white line in the middle, instead there is a small image that is perhaps two or three inches in height, it's very bright and still distorted and using the adjustments won't make it larger than that two or three inches but I can make it smaller. Could I have installed the kit wrong?
