OK, I got a few 25" WGU2000's and of course they all have VC. I did a cap kit and sweep kit on the first one that was in a Die Hard, and it came out nice. Then the second one (did the same stuff) after power up it still had VC, with just the bright light in the middle. The third one (same as the first two...caps and sweep) and I have VC with about an inch and a half of picture below the bright center line. I'm new to the U2000 and U5000 monitors, so any help would be great.
Thanks,

what does the sweep kit contain? There is a upgrade to the verticle section that contains a resistor added to drop the 30 VDC down to a more friendly 25-27VDC. This is the power that drives the verticle section. What does yours measure?
Generally....most issues with the verticle section comes down to the verticle IC, a diode replacement and a cap....as long as your power is correct per the above comment.

The kit has a new IC, 1N4937 diode, 1.2 Ohm resistor, 1N4004 diode and a cap for C613. As far as checking the voltages at the points....I am doing that tonight (once I figure out what I need to check) and looking the board over again. I learn something new with each project I take on, but I'm not sure that U2000's are any fun to learn on.
Tell you what I may just do.......... If I get one of the boards done and running good, I'm going to take pictures of the next board and make notes of all the check points and things that I do. Maybe this will make it better for the next person that is learning this stuff.
I would love to get a the DVD's that Randy puts out, but not sure if it's worth the money. I have never seen any clips of his stuff, is it any good?

Check D402 (short) and R303 (open), as well as U601 (any shorts)...

Hey Mod
To check D402 do I put the positive lead in the middle and check the outsides..while looking for OL? And the U601 is new, so I hope thats good....but how do I check it? Thanks for the help.

A diode only has two sides. Put the black lead on the side with the stripe and the red lead on the other side. The reading (on diode test) should be around .400-.700. A shorted reading of .000 or a beep means you need to pull it and test again. If it's still shorted, then replace it, and you'll probably find R303 bad, too.

As for testing U601, Pin 5 is ground. If any other pin shows a short to ground, then it is bad for sure. If the other parts are good - and you've replace all the C6-- caps recently - then you may need to try replacing this again...
