WG-K7500 series, K7505 blown out flyback. 25" vs 27"

From a friends Silent Scope, check out this flyback! Talk about an epic failure:

I'm hoping it's just the flyback. Planning a recap + new flyback transformer.

There seems to be two different flybacks depending on the model, 25" versus 27". It has a 053X3651001, so that will be the replacement we will seek out. The parts list mentions a different transformer which is cheaper, and doesn't show this one on the difference between 25" and 27" monitors. Oddly.

My friend is also thinking about going flat panel on it, since it's VGA. Not too many 4:3 ratio 27" LCDs though.

interesting, I guess I never really looked though but I was never aware that the K7500 had 2 different flybacks depending on the size.

it could just be the flyback that took a shit, I don't know what COULD fail in that case on these cause I never hear much about them, but going based on all the WG monitors from this era I've come across the past couple years every one of them had a flyback issue or another with them that was symptomatic of them failing. so it's probably not out of the ordinary for that thing to blow like that.

you also don't know what kind of mileage it's been subjected to either. most of those same monitors had SHIT tubes as well. had a K7500 rejuved that still looks fantastic... we'll see how that pans out over time.

Yea, this set of games we got has been interesting. We're all collectors, and these came from someone that had them on a location and then stored them in a attached garage on a house.

So far the monitors have been the huge problem. One of them was a Kortek that is some model that has little documentation online. The solder jobs were bad looking, and parts were blown. It's gross. A friend said pitch it cause they suck.

The K7505 is in much better condition than the others I think, because it looks like there has been some work done to it but nothing too nasty. I can see that various parts were replaced on it, and it's odd because it's a bit random.

yeah, you never know what the previous people did to it. that's the part that sucks about the games changing hands, cause a lot of people out there don't know what they're doing. I can tell from going to other game rooms, they'll have monitors where the brightness is cranked and the contrast is smearing. I imagine some of them do that to compensate for a failing tube, but come on now. there's no excuse for that to be happening on like a 20th Ms. Pac/Galaga heh

I tell people on here that I tend to leave my monitors a wee tad darker, only cause we operate ours commercially, it's not like it's in my garage sitting off most of the time.

the U2000/U5000/K7400/K7500 variety is generally susceptible to the neck transistors cooking solder pads/traces and whatever else, and as mentioned, they came with shitty Zenith tubes usually. I can tell you the quality of these monitors vs. my Hantarex Polos isn't even close in terms of the tubes. I can tell the flybacks are shot on them too because I can never get them to focus right. the K7500 flyback I changed out had a walking Screen adjustment, the focus would mess up too. it's actually missing the convergence wedges for the outer corners, but changing the flyback out improved even the focus there too to where it's not monumentally bad. the rejuvenation on that tube made it look awesome (had a red short/weak green before).

that late 90s era of gaming was kind of a ham-and-egger to begin with though, with all the games coming with hard drives and shit.. it's like they were made to die.
