Recently bought cab with a monitor that only displays a single dot in the middle. Horizontal and Vertical out?
 
Yes, is the yoke connected?
Yes it's actually the first thing I connected to the chassis. I clearly remember seating it all the way to the bottom ( the yoke connector not the yoke itself ;) ). I recall the pins on the tube looking like crap though. The neckboard had been removed and left off so there might be some oxidation on the pins. I'll try a different chassis I have on it as well to see if I get the same problem.
 
Tube pins wouldn't have anything to do with no deflection - the fact that you're getting a dot means they're working.

Make sure you put the yoke connector on right and not one pin off. After that I would start checking for any burnt parts on chassis, as well as check the bottom for cold solder points (hopefully the yoke connector has multiple bad points). Its really unusual to get high voltage with absolutely no deflection, but anything's possible.
 
he means ohm it with a meter to make sure its**edit** NOT open..

fyi inspect the yoke connector as they will melt/burn sometimes..
also check the yoke connector pins on the chassis itself..
those can develop cracked solder joints..

also check all the large resistors in that area...
r98-r101 develop cracked solder/burnt traces...

unsolder them all and look at the traces, then resolder..

Sorry, thats a term we use locally for checking cables. Just check the resistance of each of the two circuits. The blue/red should be one circuit and yellow/green should be the other. Meter set to read ohms (around 20 ohms if the meter is manual), one lead on each color as shown above.
 
the verticle circuit will OHM out higher than the horizontal circuit. thats because theres 2 circuits in the horizontal circuit (parallel)

Thanks this gives me a lot of things to check for. The chassis looked pretty clean and the resistors didn't look like they cooked the board or anything but you never know...

Cool I'll check the yoke to see if it's shorted.

In case anyone has a similar problem in the future, I hadn't plugged the yoke in all the way. :D

I figured I would update this so anyone doing a search for a similar problem wouldn't run across this and hit a dead end.
