I have a WG k7648 that has an almost light green shadow that comes off of the right side of white images or text. It is only visible on lighter colored backgrounds. The monitor is in my Splatterhouse and Rick's white mask is how I notice it the most. I tried adjusting all the colors, the contrast, the brightness, the flyback, everything. Nothing took it away, short of making the screen really dark so it couldn't be seen. The picture is very good on the monitor and this is the only issue with it. It has a fresh flyback and cap kit BTW. Any idea of what could cause this?

post a pic. if its always green and always ONLY on one side, then the convergence is off..

now if it had a green halo all the way around id say mabyeu the green drive or cutoff was up too much....

you could try a degauss just for gigs.... or live with it, or try to adjust it and probhably make it 10 times worse.

I tried to get in in a photo but it is to faint to show up, especially with my sh*tty dig. cam. It is deff. only to the right of white images, not surrounding them. I did use my degausser and that didn't do anything for it.

What does the convergence being off mean?

It means that the green gun is not lined up properly. I would try adjusting the green drive first. There should be a POT on the neck board or chassis for it. Sounds like you need to dial it down a little bit to get rid of the color bleeding.

I tried adjusting the green drive and cutoff. It didn't make any difference. I will try it again to make sure though.
If the green gun isn't lined up properlly, is there anything you can do about it?

You have to mess with the purity rings to adjust that. Are you saying the green drive didn't make any difference to the problem or didn't have any impact on the screen? You should have seen the screen go very green when adjusting it. The pot on the green drive might be bad if it does nothing.

The green drive pot is working, it will make the screen green when turned up. It just wouldn't correct the greenish shadow when turned down. I wish my camera would capture it. I will try again to take a pic of it.

Sounds like a convergence issue with the green gun being out of alignment. Read how to adjust the convergence in the manual for your monitor. Typically there is paint or glue to hold the purity rings in place so they cannot turn. If the green one has rotated a bit, it would make it shine out of alignment with the Red and Blue guns. Is the left edge of his mask purple? If so it is certainly convergence of the green. I would see if the green ring is loose and spin it a bit either direction to see if you can tighten up the alignment to remove the green shadow. If you can't, then you could attempt a full convergence.

What do you other guys think?

Mark the purity rings clearly and mess with them to try and correct the problem, and if it dosn't get it fixed, just put them back where they were. simple.

Of course it would be best to follow the manual and use a pattern generator to get the best results.

O.k. I got a couple of pics that show the issue. The first one is from the high score screen on Splatterhouse. The second one is from a test screen on a SFII board. The SFII pic shows what is going on best.

So your talking about that shadow between the numbers that is so long it looks like a stripe across the whole screen? If so, I wouldn't know what causes that and would cap the monitor if it has not been. If it has been capped recently, you need to let the real experts identify that and what might cause it.

Ken, Mod, Bueller?

I will check my TV repair books when I get home. They have a bunch of pictures of different issues and will see if one covers that.

Edit: Oh and turn down the Red drive a bit and see if that helps... Looks like too much red in the background which may actually help make that worse.

That is what I'm talking about. It is not nearly that noticable in gameplay, but is there.

The monitor has a cap kit and flyback within the last year or so.

I have tried adjusting all three color drives/cutoffs, and couldn't seem to get it any better than that.

looks pretty good to me.

i dont expect perfection out of 20 year old monitors heh...

check the header pins for cold solder, make sure you have a good video ground, then stop monkeying with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
