So, I just did a cap kit on a K4600 in a Pac Man that I picked up awhile back. The monitor was dead before the cap kit. Now it's working, but it has the notorious wave. I re-flowed all the solder on the main board as well as the daughter cards when I did the cap kit. Since this is a Pac cab, I replaced all the fuses and fuse blocks, but I'm still getting the wave. Adjusting the H. pot seems to help reduce it, but it will not go away. I also swapped in a known working daughter card from another 4600 and the wave is still there. I even went so far at to power the monitor from a seperate power supply (BK Iso-pack) and yet the wave remains! I've done a search here, and it would seem my next step would be to check the large filter cap, and maybe the VR? Where exactly are these on a 4600?

Could be in your harness/pcb edge connection.....make sure all the pins on the edge connector are making GOOD contact. You can fiddle with it and watch to see if it makes the wave and better/worse....

Thanks for the edge connector suggestion - I tried it, but still had the wave.

I finally got desperate enough to pull the working 4600 out of my Defender and tried it - it worked fine, nice solid picture. So, I decided to swap all the daugher cards one by one to see if that fixed it. Sure enough, I tried the inverter board first, and that was it! No waves. So the problem is in that board. I replaced VR201 and one cap (with the cap kit), so I guess it's time to check some of the diodes, maybe. Nice to narrow down the problem though.

Did you ever find the actual cause of your waviness?
Thanks
