WG d9200 33" - No Red with CGA - Perfect with VGA

Not sure if this is the correct area for this question but I'll try here. I'm in the middle of reviving a non-working Area 51 in an Atari Showcase Cab with a 33" WG D9200. The game played blind on pickup and after much reading I discovered I had chassis issues. I recently received a replacement chassis and swapped it in, and now I have video - with a new issue - No Red with CGA.

I connected a Laptop to the VGA (and switched the input selector cable) and the picture was beautiful, including the reds but when I go back to the CGA the red disappears.

Any ideas??

I'm not a monitor guy. At all.

But the first thing I would do, if possible, is try a different CGA board.

If still no red...

I'd check into the red wire between board and monitor.

I think we've established the monitor is good, so it should be game board or wiring.

I'm not a monitory guy either and unfortunately I don't have another board to try it with. The only other arcade games I have are a Pole Position II and a Roadblasters, I not 100% but I don't think the boards are interchangeable. Is it possible for a board to stop outputting a single color?

I will start with the easier to address and look at the wires, perhaps run a new set up and see if that solves it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I was hitting a wall mentally and just could not think of anything.

silly question, but considering the input board has separate inputs for RGB and VGA, perhaps you got a bad solder joint on the red for the RGB.

try reflowing that.

+1 mabye that male header pin has cracled solder.

It also wouldnt hurt to try to trace that wire and make sure its not broken, corroded, and make sure it didnt become mouse food.

Ok - this is a list of what I tried so far with the suggestions listed:

1) Swapped input board (instead of reflowing solder) - no change
2) Checked continuity of cable - checked out
3) cleaned connector to board - no change

After 20 minutes or so, the monitor itself went to black then white - right after the red mysteriously reappeared! After resetting the power, red was gone again and it would to dark within a matter of seconds. I'm guessing possible bad solder joint on chassis so now I plan to remove the beast once again and try reflowing the solder.

One step forward - two steps back.
