sometimes this monitor will go horiz crazy ... i can adjust the pot n bring it back under control ...... seems to be jumping when dealing cards too .... is there a cap that can be doing this if so does anyone have the component location and value for it??? Or can it be a dirty pot?? just needing a few turns then adjusted ???

Thanks

Couple things:

1. Yes it could be a dirty pot, try moving the horizontal hold and the horizontal position pots back and forth a few times like you said.

2. It could be that the voltage going to the gameboard is low. Check to make sure you're getting 5v on the gameboard.

3. It could be that you have a flaky connection on the sync wire, at either the gameboard or the monitor board. Unplug and replug both sides a few times (power off). If the pins look dirty try to scuff them up with something.

4. It could be a bad solder joint on the sync wire where it enters the monitor. If you pull the monitor board out, look at the pins, you may be able to see a little round ring around them where the solder has seperated out. You can reflow this with a little new solder to fix it up.

5. If it's none of that, it's probably a capkit issue. Replace the electrolytic caps on the board.

6. If it's STILL not that, then it's either a problem with the ic chip on the monitor board, or you've got a problem with the sync circuit on the pcb.

I'd do them in that order, 1 is most likely and easiest, 6 is least likely and hardest.

sounds like cold solder on the video header pins and it needs new caps.

you should put a new fly on it as well wile you have it out.
that can cause it to flicker also when the fly fails with cracks in it voltage leaks to ground or other components and will cause it to lose synk as well.
