I have a Tempest and the monitor for the most part is in good shape. The only issue is I do see some jitters on the lettering and numbers (when high scores are displayed). I also sometimes get squiggly vectors on the right side of the screen.

So the question is, will a cap kit resolve this? Do i need Bob Robert's "deluxe" kit for $40 or will the standard kit work fine? Keep in mind I am a novice and not sure what's involved with installing the deluxe kit. I plan on keeping this machine for awhile. Thanks for any advice.

For good measure you really should consider installing the LV mod (lv6100) if you do recap it.

But for your current issue:
Does the flyback have the cage on it?
What does your B+ register at? Should be ~180VDC

There are squiggles and then there are squiggles.

What most people call "squiggles" are an actual shimmering of the vectors cause by radio or electrical field interference, usually becoming pronounced by the HV cage not having it's mesh cover on it. That's not always the cause, but it usually is.

Other people refer to "squiggles" when they have a few lines on their picture that should be straight, but look more like a snake. This can be fixed by removing the two green box-like (chicklet) capacitors on the deflection board....

Do you suggest removing these without replacing with new? Thanks for your suggestions

Yes. They were unnecessary to th4e circuit, added as "extra protection" or something, but have started causing problems like I described above.

For example, you'll have a Tempest diamond screen, and you'll notice three or four segments that are squiggly instead of straight. Removing those caps will fix it.

I'm not home right now, or I'd give you the exact part designators...
