Still trying to get my WG6100 working, but have a few questions about reading and measuring voltages off of the schematics. The other thread http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=112321

Question 1: In the general notes section of the WG Quadrascan X-Y color display manual, it says that all voltages are measured with no signal input. What does that mean? Does this mean a certain connector should be unplugged? If so, which one?

Question 2: When measuring the voltages in certain areas can I connect the black ground lead to the chassis or say pin#2 on J101?

Question 3: If after getting a bad or off voltage in a certain area, should the first step be to check the components in that section?

Thanks for the help...

Answer 1: This means with no X/Y signal from the board. Just unplug the edge connectors to the board, your spot killer should come on, but if you have a spot on the screen, turn the brightness down so you don't end up with a burn spot in the center of the tube.

Answer 2: If measuring the DC voltages, just attach your black lead to the monitor frame somewhere.

Answer 3: Possibly. You should first check for your +/-26vdc, and then your B+. Depending on what those voltage levels are will lead you to certain areas and parts. If you're blowing fuses, it may not be possible to actually get a voltage reading long enough to troubleshoot this way, but you can follow the section of the schematics that is involved with that fuse and do non-powered tests of various parts to find your short. The 6100 manual, schematics, and even the FAQ (although far from complete) is very helpful for tracking problems down on these things...
