I have a 6100 that I have recently fixed. I'm running a ZVG currently and I can not adjust the brightness high enough to see any retrace lines. My B+ is 180v and adjusting the HV pot higher or lower does not affect the brightness. The size of the output will scale as I adjust the pot but I see no brightness difference.

My experience with other 6100 monitors is I could easily show retrace lines by adjusting the brightness too high.

Any ideas what could be wrong with this monitor? I obviously don't want to run with retrace lines showing but overall it just does not seem bright enough. Thanks.

Well, I'd check to see if the wire on the back of the brightness pot is plugged in all the way first.

You should not be adjusting the HV pot to control brightness...

The red and black wires look fine. Adjusting the brightness knob works to change the brightness. Only when I have it turned up all the way does it appear nearly bright enough.

I just left it on for 10 minutes and it warmed up a bit to show just a tiny bit of retrace lines and a red dot in the center. Turning the brightness knob down a bit made it look okay.

On my Star Wars, if I turn the brightness up the whole way, I get a ton of super bright retrace lines. I have to turn it back maybe 40% to get it to look right. On this monitor (with a ZVG menu running), I maybe turn it down 5%.

Okay, since you have another game with a working 6100, this becomes fairly easy to troubleshoot.

Start by swapping the HV cage from the ZVG to the Star Wars and see if the problem moves or not. If not, then do the same with the deflection board, then again with the neckboard. You're trying to find out which is the problem. If none of the swaps make the problem move, then I'd figure you have one of three issues:

1) The deflection transistors on the ZVG monitor frame.

2) The tube needs rejuvenating.

3) The ZVG video signals are of a lesser voltage than the Star Wars video signals, and explain why the video can't be brightened up.

If you determine that one of the boards is the culprit, then we can concentrate on troubleshooting that board...
