I got a Satans Hollow on Ebay that worked prior to shipping. It's had a cap kit installed. When I turn it on, all I get is a thin vertical line down the middle of the screen. Any ideas on where to start? There used to be a flow chart but I can't find it. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I'm wondering what the reading should be for the big blue resistor R355. I'm getting around 5.7 ohms. I've checked R313 and R503. I haven't checked my transistors 302 & 303. I'm not sure what they're readings should be.

check the yoke connector to make sure it is connected. Also, it is very common for the 4900 to have cold solder joints in the back right corner. Wiggle every part in the 400's that sticks up from the chassis, while watching the solder points underneath. reflow anything that looks suspicious....

When you say the back right corner, are we talking about the corner on the same but other side as the flyback?

Looking at the neck board I found something kind of interesting. Pins 4 and 12 on the plug that goes onto the tube don't have any solder. Is that the way it's supposed to be? Also, on the 701 plug (neckboard) I have three wires, white, green and black. The number 2 pin doesn't have any solder but there isn't a wire going in there anyway. Should this be a concern?

I found that the reading for the big blue resistor at R355 is coming up at 5.8 ohms. It should be a 6.8 with a 5% variance. Would that be causing my problem? I'm placing an order with Bob Roberts but he doesn't have a 3 watt resistor with that rating. Is there a substitute I can use?

Those neckboard pins are as they should be. And I doubt the 1-ohm difference is your problem.

And if the chassis is installed, the "back right" is the corner behind the flyback. if you look at the bottom, you'll see this is marked off as the "vertical section". very common to find cold solder in that area.

And if it was working before shipping and doesn't now - and has been recapped - then that's your most likely cause...

I've only one time needed to replace one of them, the rest were caps and cold solder. The fact that yours worked before it was shipped seems to indicate cold solder (since it was capped)...
