Apologies for posting in wrong section. Just got excited.

Im recapping a WG4903. I got a new Filter cap as well, the old one has 4 points, i think it says the 3 close points are + and the Black far point is -. The new cap bob roberts sent is smaller with only 2 points and I cant reach the far side that I think is negative. Am I doing this wrong, or can someone explain which points I connect? thanks.

What I do is connect the positive lead to the positive pad, and then put the negative on one of the "islands" that don't connect to anything. A small length of insulated wire is then soldered to connect that pad to the negative pad.

Is this how you do it Dokert? Anyone else? I dont know anyhting about this, wouldn't this burn through the wire? Anyone?

Mine looks different than that, the positive is the top hole, the neg is the bottom one, and then the 2 on the sides of the positive dont have labels.,

Do you see the big ass "+" island?

Pick a hole and stick the "+" lead in it.

Do you see a "-" island close by?

Pick a "-" hole and stick the "-" lead in it.

This is NOT Rocket Science Brother, meet me half way.

Ive blown up so much shit, I dont wanna ruin anything else. Ask 10 times, and solder once. Thank you.

The two on the sides (the islands I mentioned above) aren't labeled because they don't do anything. They're there for structural support. But you can use them as a solder point, and connect that pad anywhere you want.

Just make sure you get the polarity of the cap correct. The very first time I did it I put the cap in backward, and *poof* no more cap. I got sloppy. I always double check caps when I insert them, this shouldn't have been any different. I was paying attention to the symbol and thought for a moment that since the "+" was on a particular trace that the trace itself was positive, instead of the orientation of the cap. Lesson learned.

Dave, to be fair, it can be confusing looking at it since there is no direct way to plug in the cap without running another lead. Esp to a n00b.

OK now im Fing confused.. The + is on top the negative is way on bottom, and the 2 side points do NOTHING right? So I CANT connect this cap? I can only reach from the positive, to a point that does nothing?

Pretty much. You can't connect the cap without running a wire jumper as I described above.

I'd show you a photo, but the last 4900 I did it to is @ Okemo Ski Resort.

Fader doesn't get to use the n00b discount.

I told him about the support pads in a pm.

When in doubt, bust out your meter before you apply power.
