I finally got around to testing my tube swap I did with a broken WG 4900 tube. It came to life without the house burning down which I'm thrilled about but the picture, well isn't so hot.

I'm pretty sure I didn't get the rings back in the right space.

First question - Does this look more like a ring's problem or the yoke?

Second question - I know you don't want to mess with the yoke while it's on is it safe to move the rings while the monitor is on? I'm talking about the entire unite it's been hot glued together to hold them in the right spot for the transfer.

Thanks for reading any info would be great.

to do it rite you must do it with it on.

it looks like your yoke is not close enough to the bell of the tube.

i did 3 tube and yoke swaps today at the arcade party.

Yoke is in the wrong position.

I usually adjust the yoke position with the monitor off - I usually just leave the yoke a little loose for adjusting until its in the right spot then tighten the clamp when you get it right - be patient, it takes quite a few tries sometimes!

The rings might need to be adjusted when your done with the yoke positioning - if you did a good job marking the position and angle, you usually shouldn't have to adjust it at all.
I do my ring adjustments with the monitor on - if you don't feel comforatble moving the ring tabs by hand, then use a plastic monitor adjustment tool.

Good luck!

Man this looks really similar to one of my XM1801 Red Tent monitors. At the time a lot of people thought the yoke was out of alignment, but I always thought the yoke was bad (the 1801 is known for it). I may have to take a look at mine again....maybe it is an aligntment issue.

Do you guys even use the rubber wedges white stripes till you get it in place? I hot glued those on there before I put the yoke on. I just estimated it with my eye as best as I could. Didn't know anyway else to do it. Just wonder if I should remove those?
