I have a WG 4900 in my Track and Field that has worked like a champ for 3+ years, even though when I bought it the seller said sometimes it flakes out, but can be revived by banging the side of the machine (like we used to do with our TV BITD :)).

This has started happening recently, where in the middle of button mashing, the screen will shrink to maybe the middle 3-4 inches (lengthwise), but a few bangs on the side of the game will bring it back.

Would this be a wiring issue, a chassis issue, or a tube issue? The funny thing is, if you are playing one player, when it shrinks you can still see lane 1, so you can still play it! Less than ideal though.

Thanks

That is a chassis problem. Banging on the side of the cabinet is only going to make it worse.
There is a cold solder joint on the chassis. It is in the vertical out put section. First place to reflow the solder is the 2 vertical output transistors. They are mounted to the metal heat sink on the back of the chassis. Also you should reflow the solder at the 2 jumpers (J19 and J33), video input headers, and all the other places where there are plugs.

Along with all of this now is a good time to install a cap kit while the chassis is out.

Yeah, I kinda figured that banging on the side of the cab was not good, LOL.

Thanks for the help!
