So my Wells 19in 4605 had a vertical collapse top to bottom (mounted vertically). I did a cap kit and fixed the cold solders. Now i have a horizontal collapse left to right. I might have screwed up with that nonpolar cap on the main board. I forget the numbers. I replaced it with a normal cap and fired it up and it still had a vertical collapse but was about 2in wide and not a thin line. So I read the thread on here about that cap and put the original one back in and now i have the horizontal collapse. Anyone have any ideas? Also the fade of the anode cap (where it was originally on the tube) is a little off so it could be a little off but the monitor still lights up. Is it possible that the problem could be there along with that cap?

Please excuse me if I messed up the collapse's I get them confused.

Okay, let's see if I can understand this:

Originally, you had a vertically mounted monitor with the top and bottom moved to a line in the center that went left to right across the screen, correct? This would be horizontal collapse - usually caused by a cold solder joint.

Next, you did a cap kit.

Now, you have a vertically mounted monitor with the left and right moved to a line that goes down the middle of the tube from top to bottom, correct? This is vertical collapse.

Now, if you didn't have vertical collapse before your cap kit, then your issue is most likely a cold solder joint or backwards cap. 4600's are notorious for having cold solder on the header pins for the daughter cards. Almost all collapse issue for the 4600's are related to the X/Y daughtercard, so concentrate there.

And you should never replace a non-polarized cap with a polarized cap. I don't think you would cause any damage by doing so. It just shouldn't work the same way...

Thanks for the reply but at first I had a collapse top to bottom. (Pictured below)

After cap kit it went from left to right

Looking at it today I noticed a brown wire from L606 that looks like it got caught in something and was clipped. So im not sure where it goes. There is a picture of it below.
The other brown wire from L606 is still connected to the bundled wire spool looking thing and Im wondering if the other one goes there too.

take a plastic screwdriver and adjust the pot inside the tin can on the daughter card
kinda hard to get to/find but its there

ken layton said R352 is going bad more often nowadays there on that same daughtercard

So I just plugged it in before adjusting anything and it worked. I must have bumped the cab a little bit and now its back to the multiple lines like my previous post. I didn't replace the pots because the cap kit did not come with it. Also just adjusted the "tin can" no change. Looked at R352 and it had some crusty stuff by it so I cleaned it but that might be a sign that i need it replaced. The problem is that there are like 3 different things in that area pictured below. How do I go about replacing these?

Sorry for the blurry pics stupid cell phones

If it worked before you bumped it then you have a bad solder joint somewhere you missed.

Ya im thinking its on the main board because I resoldered almost all the joints on the daughter cards. I just turned it on again and it worked for a little while and then went to the collapse. Im going to try and reflow the main board tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice I just don't want to replace parts if there is no need. :)

check the solder joints you repaired to daughter card connections for lifted solder pads if you try and move around the daughter cards to much the solder pad can lift. It happen to me.

I plugged it in on Monday and have been too busy playing to check the forums but it has been working since. Thanks for all the help im still going to pull the monitor out and get the main board soldered up. :)
