Everything was fine last night, no one even played the machine but this morning the screen was all red! I took off the back and got the red to go away, I really don't know how because I was just adjusting everything.

Then I couldn't get the vertical hold to stop the screen from rolling.

Now the red is back and the screen is still rolling!!!

What is wrong, what can I do/try?

your picture was removed from image shack, you must have been watching something questonable with this k4600.

These 2 things are related. Blindly adjusting knobs will never solve a problem, and in this case it created another problem. Figure out which knob adjusts vertical hold and get the picture stable. Then look over the chassis for the color problem.

I would start by making sure both daughter cards are properly set. There quite a few different things that would cause it to be all red. A short in the CRT gun, the red drive transistor, a flakey red pot....hard to tell at this point. As far as your scrolling goes, is your B+ set to to the 127-131VDC range? Or did you tweek that pot too?

I'm thinking of just trashing this old monitor and upgrading to a LCD monitor. I know everyone is against that here because it looks "too good" and you can clearly see all the pixels. But if it is going to look like the game looks on my LCD computer monitor in MAME then I'll love it.

Well if you are putting a LCD on a classic, it will look GOOD, but not look "right". Just my opinion
Before you trash it, try finding local KLOVer to GIVE it to that can bring it back.....
The fact is, with a little love, that 4600 will be around a long time after your new LCD is in a landfill. At the very least pull the chassis or daughter boards and put them in the "forsale" section. Someone is looking for one, heck I am in need of one of the daughterboards right now....
