I Have a 4600 that will no get into focus completely. Its almost there, but It will not sharpen up. I have done a cap kit and reflowed the connectors. I could not get the B+ up above about 124 on the bench. The focus looks better in the game (haven't checked b+ installed.. maybe line voltage is better in the garage than on the bench?).
Anyway, if anyone has ideas on this I'd love to hear them... If my flyback is going that would be a bummer... The only one I found was $130!

cheers

I believe the focus pot could be bad, and I think it can be changed out without changing the entire flyback....

That's a special pot. Remember, it has to adjust the focus voltage which can be as high as 8,000 volts!

Chad at arcadecup is working on a reproduction flyback with focus pot.

I'll also add, there's a slight chance it could be the tube. If you have another chassis/tube, you could swap. And I've also seen a couple bad neck sockets cause focus issues.

Strange question, but is your tube clean? I've seen a lot of people complain about a picture that "almost focuses but not quite", only to find out the tube or bezel needed cleaning.

Also, bad burn-in, color drives that are up a little too high, and convergence that is slightly off can give the effect of "slightly-off focus"....

Mod..
Tube is clean (I've seen that myself!).
I've played with the color drive/cutoff levels, but the tube being out of convergence a bit is def a poss. one of the wedges was sitting in the bottom of the cab! I tinkered a bit with the yoke, but I'm not wanting to go too far with that.
1 - I'm still a little nervous tinkering around with the juice on.. Do you guys wear rubber gloves or anything when doing convergence, etc?
2 - I'm pretty sure it would be _way_ easier for me to screw the convergence up much more than fixing it!

I am having the same focus issue with a 4600 I have. Have tried every adjustment I can think of and have been told that the tube probably needs a run on a rejuvenator... just haven't had a chance to hook up with anyone who has one. I have also began looking for suitable replacement 19" tubes to just swap a new one in but I keep finding a ton of 20" tubes and no 19" tubes.
