My WG7197 was having issues whenever the screen would flash white - the entire picture would bob up and down a bit. Figured it was time for a capkit.

Did the cap kit, everything was working fine but the picture would still shake whenever the screen flashed white - decided to bite the bullet and do the flyback as well.

Swapped in a new flyback, things improved somewhat. The screen would still shake when the picture was white, but not nearly as much as it used to and the colors looked much better to boot, decided to call it done. Everything worked great for about 20 minutes, then the screen hissed, picture went out and I smelled ozone. Checked the console, replaced the HOT, but powering it up causes the fuse to blow now. I've checked over all the solder joints, everything looks like its ok. I'm getting 130v from the isolation transformer currently. Never measured the B+ on one of these before. Also have not tried replacing the voltage regulator yet, and I'm not sure how to test C36.

Any tips? Thanks guys!

inspect the flyback all around it my bet is it is cracked.
sucks as it is new. did you get it completely seated down on the chassis.

that is where the OZONE smell usually comes from.

it could also come from C36 or C69 when they arc to ground.

Peace

Yeah the flyback was properly soldered in place. It does appear to be cracked now, with the white top exposed in the picture - wasn't sure if this was an issue. Why would this happen? Any ideas before I slap another one in there only to have it explode as well?

check the yoke connector and pins for corrosion, damage or if the housing is brittle and the pins do not make a good connection.

i had one like that a new fly smoked after a few hours of operation.
after i replaced the yoke connector and fly again it worked great.
