I just bought an NHL Open Ice. Sounds great, looks great, powers up! Plays blind.

Monitor is a WG 25k7197
Replaced 2 fuses: one on the chassis (was fried when I got it), one of the power supply (I fried)
No neck glow
No pop when discharged
A diode test of the 2 HOTs indicates they are both dead
The power block is sending 133v to the monitor.

I've searching all afternoon, is there a way to determine if the flyback is bad without electrocuting myself? There seems to be a powdery black residue (almost like black chalk dust) built up on the flyback where the anode wire meets the chassis.

Also, If i have a chassis professionally capped and add a new flyback (this is out of my skill set), and attach it to the existing tube, is there any chance the repaired chassis could be damaged by a bad tube?

Thanks kindly in advance,

dd

ok first , there is only 1 HOT and 1 voltage reg, start at the beginning , check flyback for cracks or bad solder joints, check the sand resistors on board, check for an open one. my money is on a bad fly /voltage reg combo or bad solder joints , both notorious on the 7000 series. cap kit , fly and regulator i a peice of cake to do and easily available from Bob Roberts, that is unless its the Zenith made chassis with the second wire, but looking at your pics its the WG made chassis.

In that first pic it looks like the flyback is definitely bad. It looks scorched near the top. As Space Cowboy said, you can find the parts you need from Bob Roberts.

That's an original flyback and it's SHOT! Capkit and flyback replacement are definitely needed.

This chassis is repairable.
