hi
i have an upright midway space invaders. when i got it the monitor was painting just white, no sprites atall but the game coined up and played as normal. after trying to work out what was wrong by a process of elimination i worked out it was the chassis, which was a motorola m5000 (from memory)

i sourced a second hand chassis a 19VP111A also a wells gardener i think? from a guy in the states, he modified the yoke(added another wire to attach to the CRT) so i could use it with my CRT which is a 19VARP4. this chassis worked, however the sprites seemed to get larger to the right of the screen.

i sourced another chassis, this time a WG 22V1003. the person i got this from is a technician also in the USA (i am in australia) and he told me that this chassis was working pretty well. out of the three chassis i have it appears to be in the best condition, the 19VP111A is also in good condition, the motorola is pretty dirty and the worst of the three.

my question is, which of these three chassis would be best for my spacies? i sorta would like to keep it original with the motorola chassis, but i think this would be the hardest to repair. would the 22V1003 work with my CRT? i am yet to try this.

what do you guys think, and what would you do in my position. which is the best chassis? which is the most reliable?

any advice much appreciated.

the 19vp111a actually turned out to be a motorola xm-501

the 22v1003 would be for the 23" tube. You need one for the 19" tube.

Other than that, whatever works is best. Dirty can be cleaned...

hey modessitt. thanks for your reply. so the 22v1003 wont work on a 19inch CRT?

i just had a look at the motorola and its pretty messy. i dunno if it can be fixed really think its gone to silicon heaven. the flyback has a square rod coming out of it and this is broken in half and the wire to hold it in place missing...

i was kinda hoping the 22v1003 would work, its in great condition ... anyone got a chassis for sale? anyone wanna buy a 22v1003? i am in australia so shipping can be an issue... lol

There's very little difference between the 19V1000 series and the 23V1000 series. I can't remember what parts are different off the top of my head (I don' it's only a couple). The manual lists the differing parts. Now, when you bought these other chassis....did you get yokes too? I know the Motorola "M" series and the Wells-Gardner V1000 series use very different yokes...I don't about this one (19VP111A)....I've never seen/heard of it.

gday edward. thanks for your reply

i have yokes for all these chassis. the '19v111a' (i just had another look at the chassis currently in my machine, i was wrong its actually a XM-501) was working all be it with the sprites getting bigger to the right of the screen.... so i assume it has the correct yoke.

i looked at the manual for the 22v1003 and your right there is only one difference in the parts list that i can see.. part c112 which is a capacitor.

soo if i have the correct yoke on the 22v1003 and modify this capacitor, your suggesting this may work?

thanks. so glad i found this forum :)

I did the opposite, I used a 19v1000 chassis to replace the 22v1000 and it seemed to work fine. I didn't change any caps either. Just use the correct yolk for the board

thanks for that blinddog. just what i needed to hear. im assuming it is an easy matter to replace the yoke.

out of all these monitor chassis, the M5000, the 22V1003 and the XM-501, which do you guys find to be the most reliable, or are they much the same?

For reliability I think those three are pretty much the same. I do find that the Motorola's used a lot of parts that are obsolete now so there is a lot of cross referencing and some parts can be difficult to get.

So I guess I like the WG's a little better. Their replacement flybacks are a bit of money but at least they have them now.

thanks again blinddog. i think i am with you when you prefer the WG chassis. seems to be alot more common and of course wells gardener are still around these days, whereas motorola dont make monitors anymore to my knowledge.

appreciate all the help i have received. thanks guys
