Well, I finally got around to fixing my AD. I have fixed several raster monitors, but this is my first vector game. I have no experience with vector monitors. The monitor works, but the the center of the monitor is very dim. Further out towards the edges, in all directions, the monitor gets brighter. The game is playable, but it is very hard to see your ship, or any asteroids that fly towards the center of the screen. I am thinking a cap kit will fix this, but as I said, I have no experience with vector monitors and I don't want to waste my time/money recapping a monitor with another issue (failing tube?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My asteroids deluxe (19V2000) had this same problem, but it was also blooming. Replacing the HV diode fixed it.

I have no blooming issues, but maybe my issues are caused by the same thing. I'll probably recap it anyway because of a few other issues. I am also going to replace the transistors (or at least tighten/resolder), resolder pins/connectors, and rebuild the high voltage section. Anything I need to look out for? I am not really sure I know what you mean by rejuve the tube. Please elaborate, if you don't mind. I am always looking for ways to further my knowledge. I should probably read up on vector monitors so I understand a little better what is going on inside.

Thank you very much.

Well I did a little research...and even though I am not 100% sure on the exact procedure, I can't believe I haven't heard of/thought of this before. I have done similar (sort of) with tubes for hifi audio and guitar amps with mixed results. It never really occured to me that it would work to fix crt problems. I guess I have a lot to learn. I really know nothing about the inner workings of picture tubes, but I would like to learn. Any nudge in the right direction would be great. Dokert, you obviously know your sh*t, so please help. I see a few older crt tester/rejuvenators on ebay... they seem very affordable... what would be sufficient? I have no idea what to look for.
