Bringing this topic back up - I never did get around to fixing this yet.

I plan to just send the chassis out to be fixed, however, I would like some advice.

I see the ground strap is missing. I have a ground strap on another non-working chassis. Can I remove that ground strap and attach it to the currently non-grounded monitor? I guess I just want to avoid getting zapped. If I attach that ground, will it discharge (not the monitor, but will there be a zap just in putting the ground strap on?). Once the ground is on, I have no issue discharging the screen.

Also - the screen works - but is squished - looking like a straight line down the middle. Is there a possibility the missing ground strap could be the problem?

EDIT: This is from an old thread before the monitor section was added.

Are you saying its missing the ground strap on the tube? Its possible the tube is already grounded if the strap is wrapped around the tube ears and the ears are bolted to the frame. As for your problem did you do all the usual things like resolder ALL the molex plugs on the deflection board? Sounds to me like a bad connection or one of your transitors isn't working properly.

Sorry for not being clearer.

this is from a Space invaders - it is missing the ground strap. I have another non-working monitor with a ground strap. I'm just assuming that with no ground strap, I can't properly discharge the CRT.

I simply want to find out if putting a ground strap on will cause any sort of discharge (just the act of connecting the ground ont he frame to the chassis).

hope that clears things up

If you are referring to the ground strap that runs across the back of the tube you can connect it without getting zapped, assuming the monitor is off when you attach the ground.

This is vertical collapse. The missing ground strap is not causing the problem. Like I said earlier you can install the ground safely as long as the monitor is off.
